You must be physically fit--I don't intend this as any kind of endurance event, but we cannot afford to lose anyone in terrain with little water or trails. Do you exercise weekly, monthly, yearly, at all?__________What activity (-ies) and what
duration?
Any recent experience

Camping?:____________________________________
You MUST prepay $15.00 to cover permits, which you may
send to me above, preferably more than 4 days before the trip.
Payment does not guarantee placement--a self addressed stamped
envelope will ensure return of any fees for those persons that
don't make the short list. I have permits for a party of six. The BLM policy towards pets continues to evolve and I did not purchase any permits for pets. Bringing a pet without a permit may expose you to a fine. If you decide to take the risk, please, no animals in excess of 8 pounds. That means only Yorkshire or Jack Russell terriers may fit the bill.
You'll know if you're going by the Tuesday preceding the trip
date. If you cancel after Wednesday, you lose the $15 if I don't
find another person to take your place on the short list. I will
need to interview you either in person or by telephone. All
participants will sign a standard Sierra Club liability release.
You will need at least: Pack, food, 3+ liters of water/day,
flashlight, extra batteries, hat, sunscreen, medium or
lightweight boots, toilet paper, camera, Car-camping equipment. OPTIONAL: tripod, film, binoculars, wildflower guide, umbrella, hiking sticks, a plastic bag for your boots to keep sand out of your car.
Not needed: Power or fitness hikers. You must want to see things along the way and there really is no given endpoint.
I plan to depart Las Vegas about 2-3 p.m. Friday. You can go separately if you have instructions. Driving time: 4.5 hr/240
miles. Return to LV by 9 p.m. Monday May 31, again no guarantees. (hoped for) Trail start time
as early as possible, predawn. (prayed for, but highly doubtful with a party
greater than 2)
Camp: primitive, no water, has pit toilet. Still wanna go? Think, "yes."
OTHER Information: I have gone to South Section once and hope not to seem lost. Moderate clearance vehicles like Subaru Outback might come in handy for getting us to the trailhead. Photographers can be very crazy people, we may hang around an area waiting for the right light, holding everyone else up. We may elect to begin a hike 2 hours before sunrise and return to camp 2 hours after sunset, just to be at the "right place at the right time." Some of us may take 5 seconds to take an image; others like myself may take 20 minutes. I may compose, set up my camera turn on the lightmeter and put everything away without taking the picture. If you use a good tripod, you will have extremely sharp photos.
