ANTHONY BOWNE died on the Lime Tree Farm in Matlock Derbyshire England. He may have died 1619 and unsubstantiated information states his wife was Ales/Alice (unknown).

2. THOMAS bp 25 July 1595 Matlock Derbyshire England; died 18 Sep 1677 at Flushing LI NY; married to MARY (unknown); died 8 Aug 1647 Matlock. Thomas came to Boston MA late in 1648 or early 1649 and moved to Flushing NY in 1651.

Hannah became a member of the Society of Friends and after John attended a Quaker meeting held in the woods, he invited the group to meet at his home. This led to his arrest in 1662 and he was convicted of disobeying a law about worshipping outside of the Reformed Dutch Church. After a time of solitary confinement on bread and water, he was allowed to return home for three days and then sent as a prisoner to Holland. He was asked to sign a document denying his faith but refused to do this even though it meant a return to his family and assured the ruin of his estate. The directors of the West India Company concluded that the loss of religious freedom to the New Netherlands colony would doubtless destroy their plans of colonization in America. John was given his freedom and returned to America. Thus the persecution of Quakers in New Netherlands was ended. Early in 1675 Hannah entered the ministry and made a second visit to England in 1676 where she was later joined by her husband. They traveled through England and Ireland and Hannah was taken ill in London where she died. John returned to Flushing NY.
