Harts to Find--Part Four
Over the next couple of weeks Janelle grew stronger
and was able to start getting around on crutches.
Then one day while Jennifer is visiting with Janelle
the Doctor comes in for the normal morning check up
then asks Jennifer if she can speak with her privately
in the hall for a minute. Jennifer agrees but makes
sure Janelle knows she will be back shortly.
"Is there something wrong Doctor?"
"No I just wanted to let you know that I'll be
releasing Janelle from the hospital soon, and I was
wondering if you would be interested in taking her
home with you I mean she is very dependant on you and
all.."
"Yes, she is and I'm very devoted to helping her but
I don't know how she'll react to my husband."
"Well then while she's here why don't you have him
come by to meet her and see how things go from there."
"Ok, I'll bring him in tomorrow to meet Janelle and
hope for the best. I'll also try to prepare her for
the visit this afternoon."
"Sounds good and maybe bring your friend Zofia to
Janelle seems to like her a lot."
"Ok Doctor but be ready for trouble just in case."
The Doctor then leaves but stops at the nurse's
station to write a few notes in Janelle's medical
records for the nurses in the morning.
Jennifer returns to Janelle and tries to prepare her
for meeting Jonathan the next morning and letting her
know that Zofia will be coming to visit tomorrow as
well.
The next morning Jonathan, Jennifer, and Zofia meet
before going up to see Janelle.
"Darling, I think it would be best if you wait out
here for a few minutes."
"Ok, but don't take to long I've really been looking
forward to being able to see Janelle again and this
time she will be able to see me to."
"Come on Zofia I'll defiantly need your help today."
As Jennifer and Zofia enter the room they greet
Janelle with hugs and kisses then Zofia sits on the
bed beside Janelle while Jennifer sits on the other
side to talk to Janelle about Jonathan visiting her.
"Janelle in just a few minutes my husband will be
coming in to visit with you and if you feel scared in
any way just remember that Zofia and I are here for
you ok."
Janelle looks at them both several times before she
nods her head letting them know that she will try to
remember and trust them to keep her safe.
"Good then I'll go get Jonathan, I'll be right back
ok."
Again nodding Janelle watches Jennifer go to the door
and walk out. Only a few moments go by before she
reenters the room with Jonathan.
"Janelle this is my husband Jonathan."
As soon as Janelle sees Jonathan she fearfully scoots
back into Zofia who puts her arms around Janelle to
reassure and comfort her. Janelle is so scared that
she continues pushing against Zofia until Jennifer
sees what is happening and comes over to help.
"Its ok Janelle we're right here your safe."
When Jennifer realizes that Janelle is not hearing her
or even able to take her eyes off of Jonathan she
places her hands on each side of Janelle's face to try
and force her to look into her eyes and not at
Jonathan.
When Jennifer finally gets Janelle to look at her she
says, "I'm right here your safe, Zofia is holding you
ok." Janelle throws her arms around Jennifer then so
Jennifer puts her arms around Janelle to comfort her
and Zofia watch's as Jonathan leaves the room.
Much later Jennifer and Zofia after comforting Janelle
off and on most of the day they finally say goodnight
and leave.
While Jennifer, Jonathan, and Zofia are trying to
figure out how to help Janelle accept Jonathan into
her room/life, two men who had been keeping an eye on
Janelle's recuperation finally decided to see her and
find out if she could or has identified them to the
police.
Sneaking onto the fifth floor where Janelle was, one
of the men after making sure no one else was about he
stepped out behind the nurse he saw and placed his
hand over her mouth, dragged her into the restroom and
tied her up. They then went into Janelle's room and
clapped a hand over her mouth so she couldn't scream.
Janelle came awake and seeing a man began struggling
to get away totally panicking when she couldn't move.
Leaning in close one man said, "do you know us?"
Janelle looked back and forth from one to the other
then shook her head no as best as she could with his
hand over her mouth holding tight.
"No? As scared as you look I think you know us and
have spoken to the police so I guess we'll just have
to show you what happens when you talk."
Grabbing Janelle they shoved her against the wall and
doubled up their fists and landed blow after blow to
her ribs, stomach, face then when Janelle fainted they
started kicking her and stomping on her leg.
Meanwhile the nurse had worked and struggled to get
free then grabbed a phone to call for security.
Within minutes the floor was swarming with security,
and police going from one room to the next looking for
the men who had tied the nurse up. As they neared
Janelle's room they could hear what sounded like
fighting, using hand signals they surrounded the door
then kicked in the door and swarmed over the men that
were in the room.
After being handcuffed and taken away the nurse's and
doctor's came running to see about Janelle. The
doctor immediately ordered an operating room to be
readied, then after checking and immobilizing any
broken bones they lifted her onto a gurney to rush her
to the operating room.
In the morning when the Harts and Zofia arrived at
the hospital they found extremely tight security in
place everyone was being checked for ID and on where
they were going and who they wanted to see. Many
people were being turned away until regular visiting
hours.
When the Harts and Zofia were stopped and being
checked for ID the security officer told them there
had been trouble during the night and asked them to
follow him.
"What's going on? Why are we being escorted
elsewhere?"
"Sorry Mr. Hart but we were asked to take you and Mrs.
Hart to a waiting area."
"But why? Janelle who we are here to see is on the
fifth floor."
"The doctor will be with you soon. Just have a seat
here and in a few minutes the police will be here to
talk with you."
Shortly after he left a police officer came in and
introduced himself. "Hello I'm sergeant Diaz and I've
been notified by my superiors that I'm to give you
whatever information you want."
"Then tell us what's going on here this morning."
"Well Mr. Hart it started very early around 1:30 am
two men had tied up one of the nurses to get to one of
the patients."
Looking at each other they all knew and Jennifer
whispered "Janelle."
"Yes I'm sorry to say it was Janelle Doe."
"Since you're here I'm assuming they've been caught."
" Yes they have Mr. Hart but their not talking yet. "
"Can you tell us will Janelle be... is Janelle.?"
"Yes Mrs. Hart Janelle is alive and she's in the
operating room now other than that I don't know."
"Thanks Sergeant Diaz for telling us that much now
we'll wait here for the doctor."
"OK then if I get any more information I'll let you
know bye."
While waiting for the doctor Jonathan held Jennifer to
comfort and reassure her that Janelle was going to be
ok.
About three hours later the doctor came in still
dressed in operating scrubs. "Morning Mr. And Mrs.
Hart, Zofia I'm sure you have waited long enough for
some news so I'll get right to it. First let me say
that Janelle will be ok in time, but right now she's
pretty badly hurt. I think the worst damage will be
her mental state, she was so very scared before but
now."
"I understand doctor can she have visitors yet?"
"Only if the visitor is you Mrs. Hart I'm not going to
let anyone else near her for sometime depending on how
she does of course."
"Can someone take me to her then?"
"Yes I'll take you, come with me."
Arriving at the ICU ward Jennifer notices two police
officers and again is asked for ID before being
allowed into the room.
"Why all the security measures I thought the men who
did this were caught?"
"They were but we're not taking any chances that there
aren't any others out there waiting."
"Oh, where's Janelle I don't see her?"
"She's back here."
Following the doctor Jennifer finally sees Janelle
swathed in bandages again. With tears in her eyes
Jennifer steps closer and says, "Janelle, it's me
Jennifer I'm here for you."
"She's still unconscious Mrs. Hart."
"I know doctor but I want her to know that I'm here
and plan to stay here all day and all night so she
will never be alone again."
"Sorry Mrs. Hart I wasn't sure if you knew."
"That's ok, if you don't mind I would like to be alone
with Janelle right now."
"Oh, of course I'll be back to check on her later."
As the doctor left the room, leaving Jennifer alone
with Janelle. Jennifer very carefully sat on the edge
of the bed then kicked off her shoes to gently lay
beside Janelle to hold her close in an effort to
comfort and reassure her.
Late in the afternoon two days later Janelle slowly
stirs and feels a body beside her, she begins to panic
and feel terrified then she opens her eyes to find
that it is Jennifer beside her. Janelle's eye's start
filling up with tears so Jennifer moves closer to give
Janelle a shoulder to cry on.
"That's it let it all out Janelle, It was a terrible
night for you having your fears become reality."
When Janelle was done crying Jennifer wiped the last
tear from her cheeks then kissed her forehead. "Feel
better?"
Janelle hesitantly nods her head then looks over to
see the doctor standing nearby. When Janelle doesn't
turn back to her right away Jennifer looks over then
says, "Hi doctor our girl's awake again."
"Yes I see that, may I come closer to check how things
are coming?"
Janelle placing her hand on Jennifer's arm slowly nods
her head. Smiling at that Jennifer says, "well looks
like Janelle told you."
"Looks like." Smiling herself the doctor walked up
and checked Janelle over then says, "well looks like
your going to be fine, and we're going to make sure
you'll be as safe as we can make it for you ok."
Janelle nods her head again still keeping a hold on
Jennifer.
"I guess she feels safe if I'm with her."
"But you can't be here all the time, and what about
your husband?"
"That is a problem. What if we bring Jonathan in to
see if he can earn her trust, I mean she can't move
without hurting herself right now and I would be able
to spend some time with him again to."
"I don't think so at least not tonight, in the morning
when I make my rounds we can talk about it again."
"Ok, in the morning then."
A couple of hours later Janelle is moved to a private
room and again guards are posted outside her room.
Jennifer taking the opportunity calls Jonathan.
"Hi handsome how're you doing?"
"Hi beautiful I'm doing great now that my favorite
lady called."
Laughing Jennifer then says, "Hey handsome how would
you like to come see me in the morning?"
"I would love it but what about Janelle?"
"Well I thought this would be a good time for you to
start working your charm on her, and maybe we can get
her to accept you and not be so frightened."
"Ok I'll try and hope for the best. I really miss
being with you, ya know."
"Yes I know it's the same for me. So I'll see you
tomorrow then."
"Most definatly, I want to hold you in my arms again
so I'll grab every chance I can get."
"Ok see ya then, bye darling."
"Bye."
The next morning Jonathan arrived at the hospital
stopping at the gift shop and getting past the
security officers, then taking the elevator to the
seventh floor, before stopping at the nurse's desk to
wait for the doctor to get done with her rounds.
"Morning doctor is everything ok for me to go in
today?"
"Morning Mr. Hart yes I think I'll let you but I'll
come too just in case."
"Ok that will be great so which room is it now?"
"It's room number 731. Right over here."
As Jonathan enters the room Janelle looks over at the
door and sees a man standing there then he starts
walking towards her and fearfully Janelle grabs onto
Jennifer who then also looks over to see Jonathan and
she smiles at him before turning back to Janelle to
soothe and comfort her.
"Shh it's ok he's not going to hurt you I promise."
Janelle slowly looks Jennifer in the eyes and makes a
cross over her heart.
Jennifer smiles then responds, "Yes it's a cross my
heart promise ok."
Still not certain about it she hesitantly nods her
head just as Jonathan arrives at the side of the bed.
"Morning darling." Leaning down to kiss Jennifer.
"Morning to you to Jonathan."
"Morning Janelle, these are for you." As he hands her
a vase filled with carnations and baby's breath. "I
also thought you might like this." Pulling a doll out
from behind his back.
Jennifer seeing that Janelle wasn't reaching for the
items took the flowers and proceeded to smell them.
"Mmm they smell lovely here Janelle you try."
After seeing that Jennifer wasn't hurt Janelle very
carefully sniffed at the flowers to. Then Jennifer
handed the flowers to the doctor to be placed on the
shelf before reaching for the doll.
"Ohhh isn't she pretty and look she even has your
beautiful blue-violet eyes and honey colored hair."
Janelle finally reaches for the doll and takes it from
Jennifer to look at it closer then she looks at
Jonathan then back to Jennifer both are smiling back
at her then Janelle starts to give the doll back to
Jonathan thinking he might hurt her if she doesn't.
"Don't you like the doll?"
Janelle nods her head saying she likes it.
"Well then it's yours to keep."
Not understanding that she can really keep the doll
she looks at Jennifer questioningly.
"What's wrong Janelle?"
Janelle trying to communicate again looks toward
Jonathan then back at the doll.
"Are you trying to say that you think Jonathan will
change his mind later... or maybe try to hurt you if
you keep the doll?
Janelle nodded her head at the last part of the
question.
Taking Janelle into her arms "Oh you poor girl what
you've been through to make you so scared and question
any and everything a man does."
A few moments later Jonathan says, "I have some
things to attend to so I'll be leaving for now."
"Ok darling will we see you tomorrow morning?"
"Definitely I'll be here in the morning to see my
girls."
"Well, I feel very special. You'll let me know how
things go today right?"
"Yes darling I'll let you know what I find out. Bye
sweet heart."
"Bye."
The next morning when Jonathan arrives at the hospital
he finds Zofia trying to get past security.
"Good morning Zofia are you by any chance trying to
visit Janelle?"
"Morning Jonathan, yes I am. I also thought maybe
Jennifer would like a break"
"Ok lets get you through security."
Jonathan calling the Dr. gets Zofia past security and
up to Janelle's room.
After arriving on the 7th floor Jonathan leads Zofia
to Janelle's room with security guards on either side
of the door.
"Zofia , I think you should go in first and I'll give
you a few minutes before I come in"
"Ok Jonathan see you shortly."
Zofia then walks into the room and sees Janelle's
bruised and battered face.
"Morning Janelle, Jennifer."
Looking over her shoulder Jennifer sees Zofia and
smiles.
"Well morning to you to Zofia, what brings you here
today."
"Oh I just wanted to see how everyone's favorite girl
is and thought maybe you might need a break to go home
for a shower and some rest."
"Well as you can see Janelle's doing just fine, and as
for me getting a shower and rest at home it sounds
marvelous but I don't think Janelle here wants me to
leave yet."
"Well Janelle how about we let Jennifer here get some
rest and a shower, and I could stay with you until she
returns."
While Janelle considers the offer Jonathan walks into
the room.
"Morning how are my girls today?"
"Morning Jonathan we're just fine."
"I'm glad to hear that." As Jonathan walks over to
kiss Jennifer.
Janelle watches every move Jonathan makes very closely
still scared that he'll try to hurt her. Finally
Janelle touches Jennifer's hand to get her attention.
Jennifer turns to Janelle to see what she wants, and
Janelle waves her hand to let Jennifer know that she
can go home. Seeing the fear in Janelle's eyes
Jennifer kisses Janelle on the cheek before saying,
"Ok Janelle I'll take Jonathan home so you can relax
but I'll be here tomorrow ok.'
Janelle looks at Jonathan then back to Jennifer asking
that she not bring him with her.
"Yes, Janelle I'll come alone without Jonathan."
After the reassurance Janelle watches as Jonathan
backs away to the door then she puts her arms up and
Jennifer leans down for the hug and kiss that Janelle
wants to give her before letting her go.
After arriving at the house Jonathan rented Jennifer
asks Jonathan if he had found out anything about the
men who had been arrested for attacking Janelle.
"Yes, one of the men had given the police some
information as to why they had snuck into the
hospital."
"Ok tell me what was the reason that they attacked
Janelle?"
"Lets sit down on the couch here first. It's not a
pretty story and I don't want you possibly falling and
getting hurt when you hear it."
Taking a seat Jennifer then says " Ok I'm sitting now
tell me what you found out."
"First let me say that the men have been identified as
Carlos Garcia and Pedro Rodriguez it turns out that
they work for a major white slaver, but Carlos won't
say who, anyway according to Carlos Janelle was stolen
from her family and sold to a white slaver when she
was about 8yrs old, but had only been at this
particular place for 2yrs."
"My god! 8yrs old and sold into slavery!"
"That's the information Carlos gave us and he said
that she had escaped for the third time and that
Carlos and Pedro were sent to hunt her down and kill
her before she was found and could talk, which would
tear down the white slavers network then he clamed up
again."
After Jonathan was done speaking Jennifer just sat
there with tears running down her cheeks trying to
assimilate everything that Jonathan had just told her.
"Jonathan how is it we seem to get involved in these
dangerous situations? And how are we going to save
Janelle from them?"
"I don't know darling but there might be a way to get
them to leave Janelle alone. I'll need to work things
out with the police before I'll know."
"Ok Jonathan, but this is going to be much harder than
when we helped Lisa after she came out of her coma."
"Very true but I know that you can do it, I mean look
how Janelle clings to you already, and I know you love
her very much to."
"You're right there Jonathan, do you think we can
bring her home with us I mean we do have a good
security system to keep her safe while I try to help
her overcome some of her fears?"
"Of course darling, but how will you get her to accept
me? I saw how she wanted you to stay with her today
but she sent you home because of me."
Smiling Jennifer replies, "I don't know darling we'll
just have to keep working on it and hope for the
best."
"I can only hope, sometimes I just want to wrap my
arms around her and let her know that she's safe with
us."
"I know that feeling darling but the minute I move
away the fear is back in her eyes. Hey, I have an
idea why don't you bring Freeway over one day and see
how she does around you."
"That might work if she likes animals, then to I would
have to drive back home to get Freeway since I had
sent Max and Freeway home thinking we would be going
home soon."
"Why don't we both drive home to get Freeway and we
could also see what changes need to be made for
Janelle when we bring her home."
"Mmm that sounds terrific you, me alone for what 2, 3
days I can see the possibilities." Smiling Jennifer
agrees.
"Why wait when we have tonight." Jennifer says as
she starts to nuzzle Jonathan's neck.
"Mmmmm that sounds like a proposition to me." Then
Jonathan scoops Jennifer up in his arms and heads
upstairs for the bedroom.
The next morning after showering and getting dressed
Jennifer and Jonathan goes down to the kitchen for a
cup of coffee before heading back to the hospital.
"Darling after I drop you off at the hospital I have a
meeting planned with the police and Janelle's Dr. to
see what we can work out to protect her from any more
attacks."
"Ok Jonathan, and I'll talk to Zofia about staying
with Janelle while we go home for a few days and see
if I need to make any changes before Janelle comes
home with us."
"Sounds like a plan shall we go then and get things
rolling?"
At the hospital Jennifer leans over to kiss Jonathan
before getting out. "Have I told you how much I love
you lately?"
"Yes, last night but I look forward to being reminded
again soon."
Smiling they both say goodbye. Then Jennifer starts
walking into the hospital to see how things are going
and to spend some time with Janelle before leaving for
a few days.
Arriving at Janelle's room Jennifer stops and looks
at the security officers wondering if they will be
able to work things out this time and save Janelle
from those awful men.
"Morning, Zofia, Janelle how are you today?"
"We're just fine the Dr. said Janelle's making great
progress this time. I think it might have something
to do with you though I just kind of visit once in a
while."
Smiling Jennifer comes over to give Janelle a hug and
kiss before letting them know that she's going away
for a few days.
"I will be back Janelle promise, and Zofia has agreed
to stay with you until I return next Tuesday."
Janelle totally upset about Jennifer leaving for so
long a time starts crying and shaking her head no
trying to let Jennifer know that she don't want her to
leave.
"Shhhh its ok Janelle I'll be back before you know it
then when the Dr. says it's ok, I've fixed it so you
can come home with me."
Jennifer cuddles and holds Janelle all day trying to
soothe her and reassure her that she'll be back in 4
days max. When Zofia arrives later in the evening to
fill in for Jennifer she sees that Janelle is finally
sleeping.
"How's Janelle doing now?"
"Not good I'm afraid the Dr. had to order a sedative
to help her relax."
"Oh, do you think maybe she's so upset because you're
the only person she truly trusts?"
"Maybe, but I don't think she trusts me to come back
as promised and she's so very scared of being alone."
"You know I'll do my best to help her while your
gone, so try not to worry and enjoy the next few days
with that handsome husband of yours."
"I'll try but I know my thoughts will turn toward her
and wonder how she's doing so don't be surprised if I
call to see how things are."
"Oh, I won't I can see how much you both care for
each other even if Janelle don't know what she feels
right now."
"Your right there Janelle only knows that she feels
safe when I'm with her and scared when I'm gone."
"Very true, now shoo before that husband comes
looking for you."
"Ok bye and thanks for staying with her."
"My pleasure bye and enjoy your vacation."
