Jamie's Wish--Part One

Synopsis: Jennifer and Jonathan Hart take in a 10 year old little girl whose wish is to have a loving home and finally be adopted.

Jamie Fairfield is a blonde hair, 10-year-old little girl who was bounced around from foster home to foster home since she was five years old. The last home she was in, the Dantons were going to adopt Jamie but a sudden car accident that killed them crushed Jamie’s dreams. After the Dantons’ funeral, Jamie was sent to St. Ann’s Orphanage and School to live.

Sister Mary is a nun at St. Ann’s Orphanage and School who like many of the kids there was an orphan and never got adopted. Some might say she’s not your typical nun. She’s very outgoing and likes to ruffle some feathers until the people around her give in. When Jamie arrived at the Orphanage, Sister Mary noticed that Jamie was very much like her when she was her age. If it wasn’t for Sister Mary’s best friend Jonathan Hart she wouldn’t have the life she has today.

Sister Mary escorted Jamie to her classroom.

"Children! Children! Settle down please. Thank you. I would like to introduce to you a new friend that will be staying with us for a while. Her name is Jamie Fairfield. Please give her a warm welcome."

"Hi Jamie." The children said.

"Hi." She said softly.

She took her seat near the window.

"Kelly Ann. After class please take Jamie to your room so she can get settled in there."

"Yes Sister Mary." Kelly Ann said with a smile.

Kelly Ann was one of the girls that everyone was afraid of, even the boys. Kelly Ann has been an orphan since she was born and never got the break of being adopted.

When class was over Kelly Ann brought Jamie to the room and laid down the ground rules to Jamie.

"Look ‘newbie’ this is your bed. You keep your things on your side of the room. If I or June here find any of our things missing you’ll wish you never been born. You got that?"

She just shook her head ‘yes’ and started to unpack. As she was unpacking Sister Mary came in and asked, "Is everything alright Jamie?"

She looked at Kelly Ann and June and said, "Yes Sister Mary. Everything is alright."

"Good. By the way Jamie, your class will be going to the Museum of Modern Art tomorrow and Mother Superior said you can attend."

"Ok. Thanks." She said looking at her.

When she finished unpacking she went to the dining hall for dinner. After dinner Jamie went back to her room to get ready for bed. She noticed that her things have been touched. Her video collection that she bought with her allowance were all out of their cases and broken. She just sat there looking at them and cried.

"Jamie. What happened?" Sister Mary asked her as she entered the room.

She couldn’t say anything. She just picked up the broken videos and showed them to Sister Mary. Sister Mary was so speechless she just hugged Jamie tightly. Jamie finally calmed down.

"Why me?" Jamie asked.

"I don’t know Jamie. I don’t know." Sister Mary said angrily.

She then looked at Sister Mary and said, "Talk to Kelly Ann. She threatened me."

Sister Mary asked Jamie what Kelly Ann said to her and she told her. They both left the room with the broken videos in the trashcan and showed them to the Mother Superior.

"Sister Grace. Could you come in here please?" Mother Superior asked.

"Yes Mother Superior."

"I would like you to find Kelly Ann and bring her here immediately."

"Yes Mother Superior."

Sister Grace left the room and went to find Kelly Ann. Kelly Ann was sitting in her room doing her homework with June.

"Kelly Ann could you please come with me." Sister Grace said.

"I’m doing my homework." She said.

"Mother Superior wants to see you in her office right now." Sister Grace said sternly.

She got up and followed Sister Grace to Mother Superior’s office. They entered the room.

"Kelly Ann. It has been brought to Sister Mary’s and my attention that you have threatened Jamie. Why?"

"No I didn’t." She said looking innocently at Mother Superior.

"Well Jamie said you did. With your track record Kelly Ann I tend to believe Jamie. If I hear about anymore threats being made to Jamie or the other children you will be cut from all activities. Do I make myself clear!" She said angrily.

"Yes." She said glaring at Jamie.

"By the way Kelly Ann you will not be going on the field trip tomorrow with your class. You will be cleaning the bathrooms."

"Why?"

"Because you broke all of Jamie’s videos."

"Can I go now?" She asked.

"Go." Mother Superior said.

After she left, Mother Superior said, "Jamie these tapes will be replaced."

"That’s ok. You don’t have to do that. It wouldn’t be the same." She said looking at Mother Superior and then at Sister Mary.

Sister Mary then escorted her back to her room and she fell fast asleep.

The next day Jamie and her class went to the Museum. While she was at the museum, Sister Mary called her best friend Jonathan Hart at work.

"May I speak to Mr. Jonathan Hart please?….I’ll hold…Jonathan, it’s Sister Mary….Yes I know it’s been a while since we’ve talked. Is there a way that you and Jennifer can come by here today?…I need you two to do me a favor…You’ll find out when you come….How about noon time?….Ok see you two then…Bye."

After Sister Mary hung up the phone she went into Mother Superior’s office and explained to her what she did. The Mother Superior was at first annoyed and then said, "That is a good idea."

Jonathan and Jennifer arrived at St. Ann’s at noontime to speak with Sister Mary and Mother Superior.

"Hi Jonathan. Hi Jennifer." Sister Mary said hugging them.

"Hi Sister Mary. What can we do for you?" Jonathan asked sitting down in her office.

Sister Mary was about to tell them when Mother Superior walked in. Mother Superior sat down and Sister Mary proceeded with her story.

"Well you see there’s this little girl Jamie Fairfield, who came to us yesterday and I was wondering if you two could meet with her and maybe take her into your home as a foster child?"

"How old is she?" Jonathan asked.

"She’s 10 years old." Sister Mary said looking at them.

"No one adopted her?" Jennifer asked.

"She was bounced around from foster home to foster home since she was five years old. At her last foster home, the Dantons were all set to adopt her but they were killed in a car accident." Mother Superior said.

"Oh my. That’s terrible." Jennifer said sadly.

"When can we meet her?" Jonathan asked with interest.

"She is right now on a field trip with her class and they should be back here around 3pm. Do you think you can come back then?" Sister Mary asked.

Jonathan looked at Jennifer and he could tell that she wanted to meet Jamie.

"Sure we’ll be by around 3pm." Jonathan said with a smile.

They left Sister Mary’s office and headed out to their car. As they drove home Jonathan noticed Jennifer was preoccupied.

"Darling is everything ok?"

"Huh? I’m fine darling. I’m just thinking about Jamie. I wonder what she’s like."

"She’s probably a nice little girl." He said glancing over at her.

As they pulled up to the house, Jennifer got out of the car and walked inside calling Max.

"Max."

Max came out of the kitchen, with Freeway in tow. He greeted Jennifer and Jonathan.

"Max we are having company tonight." Jennifer said taking off her coat.

"Oh. How many is coming?" He asked as they walked into the kitchen.

Jonathan explained everything to Max about Jamie.

"I’ll make my best chocolate chip cookies for her." He said.

"Thanks Max." Jennifer said as she kissed him on the cheek.

When 3pm arrived Sister Mary went to Jamie’s classroom to get her.

"Jamie. Could you please come with me?" Sister Mary asked.

When the other kids heard Sister Mary ask that, they started to make fun of her.

"Jamie’s in trouble! Jamie’s in trouble!" They all said laughing.

When Jamie got out into the hall Sister Mary said, "You’re not in trouble."

They entered Sister Mary’s office and were greeted by Mother Superior and the Harts.

"Jamie, dear. This is Mr. & Mrs. Hart." Mother Superior said as she introduced her to them.

"Hi." Jamie said quietly.

"Jamie. Mr. & Mrs. Hart would like you to stay with them as a foster child." Sister Mary said.

Jamie looked at them and said, "Ok."

"Jamie why don’t you and Sister Mary pack your things while I talk to Mr. & Mrs. Hart." Mother Superior said.

"Ok."

After they left Mother Superior and the Harts, Jamie packed her stuff.

"Sister Mary."

"Yes Jamie."

"Thanks for finding me another place to live. I hope this one works out." Jamie said hugging her.

"No problem. It will work out. I have a strong feeling it will." She smiled at her.

They headed back to Sister Mary’s office to pick up the Harts.

"She’s all set."

"Great. Then let’s go home." Jonathan said taking Jamie by the hand.

Jamie hugged Sister Mary and Mother Superior good-bye and walked out with the Harts to their car.

"She’s going to make it." Mother Superior said as she put her arm around Sister Mary.

"I know she will. She’s a good kid." Sister Mary said wiping her eyes.

As they drove away Jamie fell asleep in the car. They pulled up to their house and were greeted by Max and Freeway.

"Jamie we’re here." Jennifer said waking her gently.

Jamie opened her eyes and couldn’t believe how beautiful their house was. Jennifer introduced her to Max and Freeway. Max and Jonathan took Jamie’s things out of the car while Jennifer took Jamie inside for milk and cookies.

"These cookies are delicious Mrs. Hart. Did you make them?"

"No. Max made them." Jennifer said with a smile.

"Oh. Sorry." Jamie said.

"That’s ok." Jennifer said smiling at her.

"I hope you two didn’t eat all the cookies." Jonathan said as he walked over to them.

"I...I had four cookies Mr. Hart." Jamie said looking at him with a scared look.

"Four? They must be really good." Jonathan said looking at her.

Jamie got up and ran out of the kitchen. They all looked at each other and then went after her. They found her sitting on the couch in the living room with her head down.

"Jamie. What’s the matter?" Jennifer asked as she and Jonathan sat down next to her and Max sat across from her.

"I’m soooo sorry that I had four cookies. It won’t happen again. May I please go to my room?" She said looking at them.

"Sure. Max will show you." Jennifer looked at her with a puzzled look.

Max and Jamie got up and went upstairs to her room. After Max left Jamie sat on her bed and started to cry.

"I blew it! They’re going to get rid of me. I’m not here more than an hour and I go and eat four cookies. How stupid can I be?" She said crying.

She opened her diary and wrote in it. An hour later Jennifer and Jonathan went up to see her.

"Jamie can we come in?" Jennifer asked knocking on the door.

"Sure." She said wiping her eyes.

They entered her room and found her sitting on the window seat looking out the window.

"Can we talk?" Jonathan asked.

She looked over at them with tears in her eyes and asked, "Are you going to punish me Mr. Hart?"

"No Jamie I’m not going to punish you. You didn’t do anything wrong." Jonathan said looking at her.

"Why would Mr. Hart punish you?" Jennifer asked sitting next her.

"Because I ate four cookies when I should of only had two." Jamie whispered.

"It’s ok that you had four cookies Jamie. They were good." Jennifer said as she put her arm around her.

"Why don’t we all go down and have dinner." Jonathan said.

As they sat down to dinner Jonathan asked Jamie what she liked to do in her free time.

"I like to watch old movies on video."

"Really? What type of old movies do you like to watch?" Jennifer asked her.

"I had a collection of the ‘Thin Man’ movies and the ‘Road’ pictures on video but Kelly Ann broke them on me along with my James Bond movies." She said.

"Oh I’m sorry to hear that." Jonathan said.

"Thanks." She said with a soft smile.

"What else do you like to do?" Jennifer asked.

"I love to swim. I’m not good at it but I love it anyway."

"What else?" Jennifer asked.

"Well I have some money saved to use for horseback riding lessons at Marshall’s Stables." She said.

"I know a place where you can ride horses for free." Jonathan said looking at her.

"Really? Where?" She said getting excited.

"At our ranch." Jennifer smiled at her.

"You have your own ranch? With a lot of horses?" She asked.

"Yes. We’ll be going up there in about two weeks." Jennifer said.

"Oh how nice. Some day I’m going to have my own horse." Jamie said.

"Really?"

"Yup! I’m going to work really hard and save all my money and buy me the most beautiful horse. I’ll take care of it everyday." She said to them.

"From what I hear one of the horses at our ranch just had a baby and by the time we go up there the horse will be walking and running around." Jonathan said looking at her.

"Oh wow! That sounds great. I can’t wait to go up there to see it." She said.

"Jamie how about you and I go shopping tomorrow?" Jennifer asked.

"Really Mrs. Hart? You will take me shopping?" Jamie asked getting all excited.

"Yes I will take you shopping." Jennifer said with a smile.

"Oh thank you. I’ve never been shopping before." She said with excitement.

After dinner Jamie helped Max clear the table and helped him load the dishwasher.

"Thank you Jamie." Max said with a smile.

Jamie then went out to the living room to join Jonathan and Jennifer.

"Hi sweetie. Come sit with us." Jennifer said with a smile.

She sat with them for a while until she started to doze off. Jonathan gently picked her up and brought her upstairs to her room and put her to bed. She opened her eyes, gave a sleepy smile and went back to sleep.

The next day Jennifer entered Jamie’s room but found it empty. She then heard giggling coming from the back yard. She looked out Jamie’s window and saw her and Freeway playing in the back yard. She went downstairs to get some coffee.

"Morning darling." Jonathan said looking up from the paper.

"Good morning. I see Jamie is up." Jennifer said pouring herself some coffee.

"She’s been up since 7." Jonathan said as Max poured him another cup.

"Darling. I’m worried about Jamie. She seems to get upset easily when she does something wrong. She’s never been shopping before. The Dantons must have been really strict with her." Jennifer said looking at him.

"They must have kept her away from a lot of things while she lived with them. Like they sheltered her from life. She needs to experience everything in life." He said as he got up and went outside to call her in. When he called her, she came running in.

"Good morning Mr. & Mrs. Hart." She said sitting down.

"Good morning Jamie." They said.

She went to take a bagel when she realized that she forgot to wash her hands. She looked up and saw them looking at her and that’s when she panicked. She quickly got up and washed her hands and sat back down.

"Sorry." She whispered.

"That’s ok. I want to leave for shopping at noontime." Jennifer said looking at her.

"Yes Mrs. Hart. I’ll be on time." Jamie said.

"Darling how about you two stop by the office and I’ll take both of you out to lunch." Jonathan said as he got up to get ready for work.

"That would be great darling." She said as she kissed him good-bye.

"So how did you sleep last night Jamie?"

"I slept good."

"Oh good." Jennifer said with a smile.

"After breakfast I want to see what you need in clothes. Ok?"

"Yes Mrs. Hart."

After breakfast Jamie went to clear the table when Max told her he would take care of it. Then she and Jennifer went up to her room and looked over her clothes. When she saw Jamie’s clothes she noticed that a lot of her clothes were way too small for her.

"Sweetie these clothes are too small for you. I think we should get you a whole new wardrobe." Jennifer said.

"Really?" Jamie said with excitement.

Jennifer got ready and they headed out to the stores to buy her new clothes. While they were shopping at Jeans and Company, Jennifer ran into her friend Debbie Bowden.

"Jennifer! It’s been a long time." Debbie said hugging her.

"Hi Debbie."

While Debbie and Jennifer were talking Jamie was trying on a pair of jeans. She then came out of the dressing room to show Jennifer. She stood there patiently waiting for them to pause before she interrupted them.

"Excuse me, Mrs. Hart. What do you think of these?" She asked looking at her.

"They look wonderful on you." Jennifer said looking them over.

After she left, Debbie asked Jennifer, "Who is that?"

"That’s Jamie Fairfield. Jonathan and I took her in. She’s our foster child." Jennifer said proudly.

"Why would you want to do that?" Debbie asked in disgust.

"She needed a loving home and that’s what Jonathan and I are going to give her."

"Jennifer, darling. You’re making a big mistake taking in a foster child. They are nothing but trouble." Debbie said.

"She’s a delight." Jennifer said proudly.

"Now she is. But wait until she’s with you for a couple of months and then that’s when the trouble begins. Take it from me. That’s what happened to my sister and brother-in-law."

"I don’t think Jamie will give us any problems like that." Jennifer said.

"Suit yourself Jennifer." She said looking at the clothes.

Jamie then came back out of the dressing room with her new jeans and tops.

After Jennifer paid for the clothes, she and Jamie went over to the shoe department and got Jamie shoes and sneakers.

"Those shoes look great on you and they’ll look great with the jeans too."

"Thank you Mrs. Hart." She said hugging her.

After they were done shopping they drove to Hart Industries. They got out and headed towards the elevators to the 15th floor. When they got off the elevator they walked towards Jonathan’s office.

"Good afternoon Mrs. Hart." Deanne said.

"Hi Deanne. Is Mr. Hart in?"

"Yes he is."

"Deanne this is Jamie. Jamie this is Jonathan’s secretary Deanne."

"Nice to meet you." Deanne said with a smile.

"Hi." Jamie smiled back.

They entered Jonathan’s office and found him on the phone.

"Paul I have to go. Jennifer and Jamie just came in. Ok. I’ll talk to you later. Bye. So how are you two ladies doing? Did you get everything you needed Jamie?" Jonathan asked as he came around from behind his desk.

"Yes I did Mr. Hart."

"Where are we going for lunch darling?" Jennifer asked kissing him hello.

"How about Chinese food?"

"That sounds perfect." Jennifer said.

"Sound good to you Jamie?" Jonathan asked kissing her on the head.

"Oh yes it does. I never had Chinese food before." Jamie said as they left his office.

"Well you’re in for a treat then." Jonathan said holding the door open for her and Jennifer.

"Deanne."

"Yes Mr. Hart."

"I’m taking my two favorite girls out for lunch and I won’t be back for a couple of hours." He said.

"Ok Mr. Hart." Deanne said smiling at Jamie.

"Nice to meet you Deanne." Jamie said smiling at her.

"Same here. You are one lucky young lady." Deanne whispered to Jamie.

"Thanks." She smiled back at her.

When they entered Uncle Ti’s restaurant, Jonathan told them that he has to go to New York for a meeting this weekend.

"This weekend darling?"

"Unfortunately yes this weekend."

"But we have tickets to see Madame Butterfly." Jennifer said sounding disappointed.

"Why don’t you take Jamie?" He said looking into her eyes.

"That would be great. Want to go Jamie?" Jennifer asked.

"Sure. It should be fun." Jamie said with a smile.

"Good afternoon Mr. & Mrs. Hart. The usual?"

"Hi Kim. Sure." Jonathan said.

"And you miss. What would you like?" Kim asked her.

"I don’t know. Can you help me?" She asked him.

Kim walked over to her and he helped her pick out the food that he knew she would like. Before Kim left he said to Jamie, "Don’t worry you’ll love the food."

"Oh thank you." She smiled at him.

"Jamie you never ate Chinese food?" Jennifer asked her.

"No Mrs. Hart I never ate it."

"You’ll love it." Jonathan said with a smile.

Jamie excused herself and went into the bathroom.

"Darling I think we should tell Jamie that she can call us by our first names." Jennifer said looking at him.

"That’s a good idea." He said kissing her.

When Jamie came back Kim brought them their lunch. During lunch Jonathan told Jamie that he and Jennifer thought it would be better for her to call them by their first names.

"Sure Mr. Hart. Oops. I mean Jonathan."

After lunch they drove back to Hart Industries to drop off Jonathan and the girls headed back home. When the girls got back home Max told Jennifer that her dad was in a car accident.

"How bad is it Max?" She asked as she sat down.

"He’s going to be fine. He broke his leg and arm." Max said.

Jennifer called her dad and told him that she and Jamie will be out to see him. When Jonathan came home Jennifer told him what happened to her dad.

"Darling. I’m going to take Jamie with me to see my dad tomorrow." She said as they sat down for dinner.

"Ok. I’ll come down after my meeting on Sunday." Jonathan said looking at her.

"Thanks." She said.

After dinner Jonathan, Jennifer and Jamie went into the living room to sit by the fire. Jamie noticed how upset Jennifer was that her father was hurt.

"Jennifer. Jonathan. I’m going to go up to my room." Jamie said.

"You don’t have to leave Jamie. Stay." Jonathan said looking at her.

"No. It’s ok. You two need to be alone. I’ll only be in the way." She said as she got up and went upstairs.

While Jamie was upstairs, she got rid of a lot of her old clothes. She then pulled out her diary and wrote in it.

"Thursday, August 15th. I’ve been with the Harts for three days and boy do I love it here! They are great people. I like them better then the Dantons. When I make a mistake I never get yelled at or punished. They told me I could call them by their first names. That is so cool! I had for the first time Chinese food. It was delicious. I also got new clothes. Shopping with Jennifer was the best! In a couple of weeks I will be starting a new school. Tomorrow I will be going to Maryland to see Jennifer’s dad. He was hurt in a car accident. Anyway, I’m going to go to bed and say a pray for Jennifer’s dad and also say a pray that they can adopt me someday."

She closed her diary and went to sleep. The next morning she got up, got dressed and went outside to play with Freeway. Jennifer then came down stairs looking for Jamie.

"Jamie. Could you please come inside?" Jennifer called her.

She quickly walked in, washed her hands and sat down at the table to eat her breakfast.

"Jamie did you pack for the trip?" Jennifer asked her.

"I folded everything and put it on my bed so you can see what I am taking with me." She said looking at Jennifer.

"Oh ok." Jennifer said with a puzzled look.

"Jamie. Was the Dantons very strict with you?" Jonathan asked looking at her.

Jamie shook her head ‘yes.’

After she was done eating, Jamie sat patiently while Jonathan and Jennifer were done eating their breakfast.

"Sweetie why don’t you go up and pack your things." Jennifer said to her.

"Don’t you want to see what I’m taking with me?" She asked looking over at her.

"There’s no need to. Whatever you are taking with you should be fine."

"Ok. Then I’ll be up in my room." She said getting up.

Twenty minutes later they went up to talk to Jamie.

"Jamie can we come in?" Jonathan asked knocking on her door.

"Sure you can." She said closing her suitcase.

"Jamie what was it like living with the Dantons?" Jonathan asked as he and Jennifer sat on her window seat.

"They were ok but they never let me do anything. I mean Mrs. Danton never took me shopping like Jennifer did. If I said I didn’t like something Mr. Danton would say too bad just deal with it. One time I had two pieces of cake and Mr. Danton started to yell at me. He grounded me for two weeks. That’s why I thought Jonathan was going to punish me for taking two extra cookies. I was punished a lot." Jamie told them.

"That’s terrible." Jennifer said as she sat next to Jamie.

"Well Jamie, you’ll get to do what you want here. There are rules here but not too many." Jonathan said to her.

"What are the rules Jonathan?" She asked looking at him.

"Let’s see. No TV until homework is done, keep your room clean, bedtime is at 9pm Sunday to Thursday. Fridays and Saturdays it’s at 9:30pm. Sound fair?"

"Yes. Very fair. You know, I think I’m going to like it here." Jaime said with a smile.

Jonathan and Jennifer hugged her.

They then got ready and headed to the airport. They first flew to Maryland to drop off Jennifer, Jamie, Max and Freeway then Jonathan flew to NY.

"Darling, I’m going to miss you." Jennifer said as she kissed Jonathan good-bye.

"I’m going to miss you too darling." He said as he kissed her passionately good-bye.

"You know Max, I hope someday when I get married my husband treats me the same way Jonathan treats Jennifer." Jamie said as she saw them kiss.

Max just smiled at her.

After Jonathan left, they drove to Jennifer’s dad’s house. As they pulled up they saw her dad outside waiting for them.

"Dad! What are you doing out here?" Jennifer asked walking up to him.

"Waiting for my ‘little’ girl." He said kissing her hello.

"Dad I would like you to meet Jamie. Jamie this is my dad Stephen Edwards."

"Welcome Jamie." Stephen said shaking her hand.

"Thanks." She said with a smile.

"So how are you feeling dad?"

"A little sore but much better now that you are here." He said as Jennifer wheeled him in.

They all went out back to eat lunch that George prepared for them. After lunch Jamie went down to the lake to hang out. While she was down there Stephen came by to talk to her.

"Hi Jamie."

"Oh hello Mr. Edwards." She said getting up.

"You can call me Stephen." He said smiling at her.

"Oh ok. You have a beautiful lake."

"Thank you. Do you know how to fish?"

"No sir."

"When I get better I’ll take you and Jennifer out on the row boat and I’ll teach you."

"Really? Thanks! You know this family is so cool. No one has ever cared for me as much as Jonathan and Jennifer have." Jamie said.

Stephen just smiled. Then they went back to the house.

"Jennifer! Jennifer! Guess what!" She yelled excitedly running into the house.

"What?" She asked coming out of the den.

"Your dad said he’s going to teach me how to fish. Isn’t that great!" She said.

Jennifer looked at her dad and then at Jamie.

"When he gets better that is." Jamie said.

"I see. Dad I see you made a new friend." She said hugging him.

"I think so. She’s very lucky that you and Jonathan took her in." He smiled.

Jennifer and Jamie helped Stephen to the couch and then Jennifer told them that she’s going to call Jonathan.

"Tell Jonathan I said ‘hi’." Stephen said getting comfortable.

"Me too." Jamie said.

"I will." Jennifer smiled as she saw them both sitting on the couch.

Stephen and Jamie talked and talked about themselves for a long time.

Jennifer went into the den and called Jonathan at his hotel in New York.

"Hi darling….I miss you too….Jamie and dad are out in the living room talking….She fits right in…How’s the meeting going?….Oh that’s great…..You should be here around 10am tomorrow morning?….Great. I can’t wait to see you….Ok…I love you too darling….Bye.

She then hung up the phone and sat there for a while until there was a knock on the door.

"Ms. Jennifer." George called.

"Come in George." She said.

"Dinner is ready." He said.

"Oh great. Thanks George. I’ll be right there." She said wiping her eyes.

A few minutes later Jamie knocked on the den door and then walked in.

"Jennifer are you ok?" She asked walking over to her.

"I’m fine sweetie." She said looking at Jamie.

"Ok. Dinner is ready". She said as she walked towards the door.

"Jennifer."

"Yes Jamie."

"Thanks again for taking me in. You and Jonathan are the best." She then left.

Jennifer got up and went to dinner. After dinner Stephen, Jennifer and Jamie went into the den to watch TV. Jamie turned on the television and found her favorite movie playing "Road to Bali."

"You like old movies Jamie?" Stephen asked.

"Yes I do. This is my favorite." She said curling up next to Jennifer.

About half way into the movie Jamie fell asleep. Jennifer picked her up and carried her into her room and put her to bed. As Jennifer was leaving Jamie woke up and said, "Good night."

"Good night sweetie." Jennifer then closed off the lights.

As Jennifer closed the door she heard Jamie say her prayers.

"Dear God. Please watch over Jonathan as he comes here tomorrow. Thank you God for helping me find a wonderful family to live with and hopefully one day they can adopt me. Please help Stephen get well fast so he can teach me how to fish. Thank you. Amen!"

Jennifer then left and went down to the den to talk to her dad.

"Dad."

"Yes dear."

"I heard Jamie say her prayers and she was asking to be adopted."

"Well what do you think?" He asked looking at her.

"To tell you the truth dad, I fell in love with her when I saw her at St. Ann’s. She is such a sweet little girl. I don’t know how she handled the hardships in her life at such a young age. Did I tell you she was bounced around from foster home to foster home? Then the Dantons were going to adopt her but they were killed in a car accident. Now she’s with us. I’m going to talk to Jonathan tomorrow about adopting her."

"Well good for you. She is a lovely little girl. She is so full of life. If you don’t adopt her I will." He said with a chuckle.

"Thanks dad." She hugged him and then went off to bed.

The next day Jamie got up early and went to check on Jennifer. She knocked on her door and waited to be let in.

"Come in."

"Good morning Jennifer." Jamie said entering with a smile.

"Hi sweetie. You’re up early." She said looking over at the alarm clock.

"I couldn’t sleep anymore. I can’t wait until Jonathan gets here. I miss him." She said walking over to Jennifer.

"I miss him too."

She then scooted over so Jamie could climb into bed with her.

"You know what? Someday I hope that I can meet someone just as wonderful as Jonathan. He treats you so nice. You’re so lucky. The last foster home I was in before the Dantons, the Kelly’s, they never treated each other nicely. They always yelled at each other. I’m glad Mrs. Kelly left him. That’s how I ended up with the Dantons."

"Really? You’ve been through some rough times." Jennifer said.

"Yes I have. But hopefully it will get better." She said as she dozed off.

"It will get better." Jennifer whispered.

She then also dozed off. Then she was woken with a soft kiss on the lips. She opened her eyes and saw Jonathan leaning over her.

"Hi darling. I see you have company." He smiled at her.

"Hi darling. She came here a little while ago. We were just talking and the both of us fell asleep again." She said getting out of bed.

Jonathan gently picked up Jamie and brought her back to her room. She stirred a little and then went back to sleep.

He then went back to their bedroom, took Jennifer in his arms and kissed her passionately and said, "I missed you so much." Then he made love to her.

After a while they got up and went to get Jamie. They noticed she wasn’t in her room so they headed downstairs.

"Dad."

"Yes? Jonathan when did you get in?"

"About an hour ago." He said smiling at Jennifer.

"Dad have you seen Jamie?"

"She’s down at the stables with Mickey."
