My interest in martial arts started with my sons going to a local karate
school. Their ages at the time were 9 and 10 years old. They attended another
type of karate form for about a year, and then a new place opened up called
kwon's champion school - the teaching was of tae kwon do, hapkido and weapons.
They attended that school right up to the present time. I started a couple of
years after them, and have now been going for more than three years, and have
attained my 2nd degree black belt. The teaching has grown to now include kung fu,
judo, kickboxing, and the name of the art is called Hwardo. (See kwon's champion
school listed for my links below for further information of my art.)
I feel all martial arts are good training and exercise. I don't say mine is any
better and we are not taught to think that. We take an oath each day of class to
not fight outside or anywhere, to help others and our families and neighbors.
The practice of martial arts in my opinion is for exercise and defensive skills,
not to go out and impress others with your knowledge of fighting. Competition
karate is for people to use in controlled situations, not outside where injuries
can occur quite easily. We do not promote this kind of action, and do not encourage
it in any way. Our sparring is against multiple opponents, but is supervised
and we control our punches and kicks as to not inflict pain on others. Self-control
is much harder than full contact. Your reflexes, agility and focus are tested
in this manner!
