Subject: Eurell & the DEA?
What is the truth to the rumors that once Eurell became partners with Dowd and was exposed to the drug world that he (Eurell) contacted the DEA and became a undercover DEA agent because he didn't trust IAD? Isn't it true that Eurell continued working for the DEA during and after the arrests in 92 and continues to this day to work for them?

Bluewall: We have a great deal of email regarding this subject so we checked with the DEA and the DEA would neither confirm nor deny Mr Eurells past or present employment/association with them.

Bluewall: Well according to records Eurell retired almost two years before they were all arrested. As far as a name change he was offered the WPP (wittness protection program) but declined it. I am a journalist in Montreal, Canada, researching police corruption for a weekly newspaper called Hour and I'd like to reach Mr. Eurell. I've won a number of awards for investigative reporting, including most recently one from the Canadian Association of Journalists. I am specifically interested in ex-cops who have joined Quebec's warring biker gangs and other crime groups, or who've become partners in strip clubs. I was wondering if I might be able to ask Mr. Eurell about his recollections of police corruption. I'd appreciate any help you could provide and thank you for your attention.

Bluewall:Your email doesn't pertain to this site but we'll give you an answer based on Mr. Eurells knowledge. Mr Eurell stated than when working the West Indian day parades on Eastern Pky in Brooklyn the officers were instructed to ignore all minor offenses. Take a report and refer it so a riot wouldn't break out. Eurell also stated that was for offenses such as drinking and drugs. Obviously if there was a threat to life officers should intervene with adequate backup and make an arrest removing the indiviuals involved. With the situation at the Puerto Rican day parade the officers decided to get treatment first for the victims. Its very difficult to second guess what an officer feels he needs to do at the moment. Moving in after the victim was already gone may have proved to incite the riot. The reason for such a policy has always been at a riot situation the police attempting an arrest would incite more violence from the crowd and this would result in more victims. The police are damned either way, if they were riot ready at the parade as they just were at the recent funeral of a police shooting victim. The public outcrys that the NYPD caused the people to riot by showing up in riot gear. Well if the police aren't riot ready a situation like the Puerto Rican day parade happens where 2 beat cops can't breakup a riot and just take a report.

I would like to by this book, but I need the name of the author. I called my local book store and gave them the title but they could not find it. Thanks for any help.

Bluewall:The reason you were unable to find this in a bookstore is because it was never published. By the time Mr.Eurell was able to write it publishers considered it yesterdays news. Mr.Eurell still felt the need to tell his side of the story regardless of compensation. Thats why its here on the web for free.

Hello, I recently read "Good Cop, Bad Cop", and therefore I found this web site very interesting. I have several questions for Mr. Eurell. First, I am curious as to his thoughts about how he was portrayed in Mr. McAlary's book? And I am wondering if he would have any additional comments about the book? After reading Mr. McAlary's portrayal of Michael Dowd, as well as how this web site describes him, does Mr. Eurell have any fear of Dowd trying to find him after he is released from prison in order to exact some sort of revenge? And I am very curious how he might envision a meeting with Dowd? And as to Dowd's sentence, does Mr. Eurell believe that it was adequate, or should it have been either easier or harsher? (Personally, I believe that a longer sentence for Dowd would not have been inappropriate.) I truly hope that Mr. Eurell is repentant, and that he has learned the lessons that he needed to learn, and is a changed man. Bluewall:Thankyou for your letter. We'll try to answer all your questions.
Mr.McAlary's portrayal of Mr. Eurell, and Mr. Dowd were way off base. Mr.McAlary contacted both Mr.Eurell and Mr.Dowd as well as some of the other officers involved for cooperation with the book (as he did with Mr.Winter in "Buddy Boys"). Everyone declined his offer. Thus "Good Cop Bad Cop" was written totally from the side of one sole investigator who never had enough evidence to make an arrest. Mr.Eurell after reading the book stated it appeared Mr.McAlary wrote it from his barstool as there were many inaccurate statements and quite a few outright lies.
As far as Mr.Eurells feeling towards Mr.Dowd his feelings are hopefully after all these years Mr.Dowd will want to get on with his life. He feels they (especially Dowd) was made examples of because they were police officers. Neither Dowd or Eurell are the evil people the news media or McAlary made them out to be. They were exposed (and fell victim) to temptations 100 fold that of the average citizen.
As far as a meeting with Mr.Dowd it was in the planning but never materialized. Mr.Eurell and Mr.Dowd went through many emotions as friends and even though Mr.Eurell feels they'll never see each other again he stated he loved Mike like a brother and still considers him a friend.
Mr.Eurell personally has been alcohol free since 1993 and has remained out of trouble with the law since his arrest. His probation and supervision was terminated June,21,1998.

I think you book was poorly written. My fourth grade students coulda written a better story than this. Another comments I would like to make is too Kenny Eurell himself. When I met you I was a young girl of 20 years and I knew you were up to no good. You couldn't look a persons straight in the eyes and you coulda see three feets in front of me. I hope you feel much better after writing this piece of trash. You deserves to be in jail for at least the same amount time as Dowd. The only reason your not ther to is because you sang first.
