FREDDY VS. JASON is coming... sometime... maybe...

I am trying so hard to update this page, but all of my information seeking turns up with little more than delays. "Freddy vs. Jason" is like a top-secret project, and nobody wants to divulge much info about it.
Back in 1986 New Line Cinema wanted to buy the rights to the Friday the 13th series and do the movie then, but too many people objected to the idea. Then they did buy the rights & released Jason Goes to Hell in 1993 (at the end of which the meeting of these two horror titans was hinted). It is more than obvious that horror fans nationwide are anticipating Freddy vs. Jason. Whether or not the film will ever be released remains an annoying mystery.
In an interview, James Robinson said that they were trying to show Freddy and Jason as the more frightening "spirit" forms from their older films. He wouldn't give away much of the plot, but did say that the movie will have to do with the lives of young Freddy and young Jason intertwining somehow. They're trying to keep most things about it a surprise, but here's the info I managed to dig up:

I found a few Freddy vs. Jason earlier script ideas, plus more about the evil "d" word. Check it out HERE.

According to Robert Englund, Freddy vs. Jason is on the move! Previously believed to be on hold while New Line Cinema decided whether to first go forward with JASON X, Englund reveals in an interview with DVD Review: "All I know is that they're waiting for a first draft at this point. I am really looking forward to that, and then we'll go into early pre-production. I might be doing a little bit of stuff, screen tests and so in September. Currently we are working towards a Summer 2000 release date [Dostah's note: ha ha ha]. As I say, there's no final script yet, but I heard some really interesting stuff about the story and how they tie Freddy and Jason together. One of the ideas is to make Freddy the janitor at the Crystal Lake camp and so forth. I am sure it will be fun." The writer on the new draft of Freddy vs. Jason has been verified as comic book writer Mark Verheiden. Verheiden wrote an early draft of The Mask as well as several of Dark Horse Comics' excellent ALIENS and Predator mini-series. David S. Goyer, who previously wrote a draft with James Robinson (as well as writing Blade and co-writing Dark City) has been brought in to revise the script. Only Kane Hodder as Jason and Robert Englund as Freddy remain definitely attached. FX master Rob Bottin, who was long slated to direct, is no longer with the project.

As I gain more knowledge of the most anticipated film ever (for me at least), I will add it to this page.
