John picked up the guitar in second grade after hearing Van Halen's 1984 album. His guitar teacher, showing him tunes like Jingle Bells and Hot Cross Buns, didn't hold his attention for long, and alas, the old Memphis went into a closet for seven years. But after attending a Clapton show and listening more and more to an album called Appetite for Destruction, the desire to play guitar was reborn in him. Lessons at Focus II/Music Emporium began again, and John's never looked back. After several high school and college bands, John and his cousin hooked up with some old friends (Mike and Bill) that were in a band called Disillusioned. They were all GNR fans, and decided to do a one-off show of GNR covers, and AFD was born. John's been emulating Slash's style for over fifteen years now, and it's as fun for him now as it was in his room, playing along with GNR on the stereo.
