Looking north, at the southbound exit into 230rd St.
The northbound Deegan is about to dip under a strange cantelevered
section of service road for a few blocks. We're a block east of
Broadway and the Marble Hill neighborhood. Riverdale is up the
steep hill, unseen to the west.The triplet apartment houses in
the center probably date from the very early 20's, judging from
their roofline retaining walls. The practice of topping the roofline
off with a cornice, as on the building just beyond them, pretty
much died out after World War I. The white building to the right
appears to be from the cornice age, but probably had it's cornice
removed due to decay. |
