The Tics first came out with the underground
song: "Gimme What Ya Got"(In 1996). The group
didn't get signed to a major label recording
contract. So, Nelly ended up signing to Universal
Records as a solo artist, promising to return to his
group. He then went multi-platinum with his 2000
debut, Country Grammar. He returned to The Tics and
they came on with Free City. (Name referring to the
their imprisoned crew member City Spud).
