They only knew bits and pieces of it. He was an orphan from Comerio; even now we'll never know the whole story because it died with him.Through meticulous research I was able to discover and verify the following and i'm still diggin! Ramon was born to a Taino mother in the town of Naranjito where she worked as a servant for one of the local families. Although her last name was Bermudez a spanish name, her first name was a Taino name (Ionmuna). Her parents had been slaves, but because she was born after slavery had been abolished she was "free born". Her parents were both Tainos born in what is now Moca. Ramon's mother died when he was a toddler and he was taken in by a local woman who then moved with him to Comerio. I am now working on verifying the information I have about the woman who raised him. When I am done I will post it here. I was unable to find any information on his father but I have not given up!
