Dimensions: 8.5" Hook used: steel hook nr.4 (2mm) Yarn: 4/2 non-mercerized good quality cotton twain (of course you can substitute for anything that suits you, just adapt the final size). Chain 40. Work 24 rows of basketweave stitch: 1st row: dc across. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: Skip the first dc, *2 front post dc, 2 back post dc*, repeat from * to *, end with 1 hdc in the last dc. Ch 2, turn. 3rd row: Skip the first stitch, *2 back post dc, 2 front post dc*, repeat from * to *, end with 1 hdc in the last dc. Ch 2, turn. 4th row: Identical to 3rd row. 5th row: Identical to 2nd row. Repeat rows 2 to 5 until you have a square (24 rows). Don't cut the yarn. Border: 1st row: Ch 1, in the top of the last stitch of the 4th row make 1 sc and distribute 40 sc's through the side of the square; 1 sc more in the very corner, 2 ch, 1 sc in the same point, 40 sc, for the corner 2 ch, 1 sc in the same point of the last stitch, and work this way until you made sc's in all four sides. Ch 2, slip stitch in the first sc. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc, making 1 sc, 2 ch, 1 sc in the ch 2 space of the corners. 3rd row: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc, * 5 ch, skip 5 sc, 5 dc*; repeat from * to *, and make the last dc in the corner space; 5 ch and 1 dc in the same space, 4 dc, repeat from * to * until the end of the side; go on like this, making 1 dc, 5 ch, 1 dc in the corners as explained, and end with [1 dc,5 ch, 1 dc] in the last corner, 1 dc, slip stitch in the 3rd ch of the 3 turning chains. 4th row: Ch 1, 2 sc, 1 picot, 2 sc; in all the 5-chain spaces make 3 sc, 1 picot, 3 sc; in all the 5-dc's groups make 3 sc, 1 picot, 2 sc. In the corners make 3 sc, 1 picot, 3 sc. End with a corner, 1 sc, slip stitch in the first sc. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends. |
