Dolphy - Classically trained multi-instrumentalist (sax, bass
clarinet, flute). Played with the best: Coltrane, Mingus, Mal
Waldron (who, strangely enough, was a member of the "krautrock" band Embryo),
Ornette Coleman. Recorded everything from burning hard bop to free-jazz
to the avant-garde.

Neubauten - Arguably the creators of industrial music.
Big influence here. One of the most erudite bands out there.
Brian
Eno - Rock, ambient, avant-garde musician. Original member
of Roxy Music and made varoius recordings with Robert Fripp. Was a big
influence on the band.

- The other #1 "krautrock" band of all time! More avant-garde experimental
than krautrock, actually.

Exposure - Long-time promoters of underground rock, avant-garde, experimental,
and more. Great on-line catalog of things you can't find in your
local stores.
Ghost
- Japanese psychedelic band known for their spiritual approach to music.
Combining western psyche music with traditional Japanese folk music makes
them rather innovative.
Jimi
Hendrix - Again, what can you say? He was the most soulful and
wailing-est blues man ever.

Exit - Gristly jazz shoved down your throat.

Crimson - Prog-rock with a highly improvisational side.
Kraftwerk
- One of the old school "krautrock" bands. Started out an organic
band and later changed to a more robotized style of minimalist synth-rock.
Magical
Power Mako - Premier Japanese psychedelic musician. He's been
kicking around since the early 70's.

McLaughlin - Of the best jazz / fusion guitarists ever. Highly
spiritual music that makes you feel alive. Founder of The Mahavishnu
Orchestra, the best fusion band there ever was!
Thelonious
Monk - Arguably one of the most innovative pianists in jazz!
A very eccentric musician and personality.

Sound Forever - Great on-line zine devoted to experimental, underground
rock, jazz, blues, etc. In-depth interviews and articles.
ReR
Recommended - Chris Cutler's lable/catalog. The place to get
Henry Cow and other related projects.
Soft
Machine - Started in the late 60's underground psychedelic scene.
Came from the same scene that produced Pink Floyd. Later became more
of a fusion band.
Karlheinz
Stockhausen - One of the most important and influential experimental
musicians ever. Influenced others such as Can (Holgar Czukay and Irmin
Schmidt were his students) and Miles Davis.
Sun
Ra - One of the best jazzmen ever! Free-jazz, big band,
poetry, film, science-fiction. Was arguably was the innovator or both the free-jazz and the space-jazz movement. Very thought-provoking music and a major
influence on the band.
Tangerine
Dream - Started out as an experimental rock band, ended up inventing
techno and new age music.
Mc
Coy Tyner - Excellent pianist, like lightening! Coltrane
sideman with few, if any, peers.
Joe
Zawinul - Excellent fusion keyboardist. Played with Miles
Davis (he wrote "In a Silent Way"), founding member of the fusion group,
Weather Report.
