His dark rule over the WWE started meager but grew with his legions of Creatures of the Night, he became more powerful than anyone thought. His Ministry of Darkness decended upon the wrestling world with such members as Paul Bearer, Mideon, Vicera, the Acolytes, Edge, Christian and Gangrel (the last three forming The Brood) Even his half-brother Kane on some occasions. His evil reign seemed to vanish as he took some time off (real life injuries kept him out of the ring for some time), but the dark one who's soul was linked to a mystical urn at one time, returned with a vengance. His return brought about a change in the once eerily dressed former heavy weight champion. The American Bad Ass emerged and with his eyes set on another reign as WWE Champion. He might haved looked like a rough biker, but as he informed the Rock: "I'm still down with the devil and I will get medieval on your ass!"
