Nació el 21 de Septiembre de 1912,

Chouinard Art Institute (ahora California Institute of

Jones murió el viernes de insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva en su residencia de Newport Beach acompañado por su esposa Marian, dijo su hija Linda Jones.
El dibujante trabajó en más de 300 películas animadas a lo largo de una carrera de más de 60 años, obtuvo premios Oscar por tres de sus cintas y en 1966 recibió un galardón honorario de la Academia por una vida colmada de logros.
También fue nombrado miembro vitalicio de la Asociación de Directores de Cine de Estados Unidos.
Con su trabajo para el estudio Warner Brothers, Jones ayudó a dar vida a algunos de los personajes animados más famosos del mundo. Además de Bugs Bunny y Porky, popularizó el personaje del Correcaminos y su eterno perseguidor, Wiley E. Coyote. También dibujó a Pepe le Pew, el zorrillo francés que siempre perseguía a una elusiva dama, aunque en algunos casos era solamente un gato con pintura blanca en el lomo.
Aunque su trabajo específico era la animación, su conjunto de admiradores abarcaba virtualmente todas las ramas del cine.
``La originalidad de Chuck Jones, su humor y su sentido del ritmo no tienen paralelo hoy en día'', dijo una vez el director Steven Spielberg.
Tres de sus producciones -- ``For Scent-imental Reasons,'' ``So Much for So Little'' y ``The Dot and the Line'' -- ganaron premios Oscar.
Una de sus películas, ``What's Opera, Doc?'' (¿Qué es la ópera, doctor?) fue incorporada al Registro Nacional de Cine en 1992 por ser considerada ``una de las películas más significativas de nuestro tiempo desde el punto de vista cultural, histórico y estético''.
Jones nació en 1912 en Spokane, estado de Washington, pero se mudó a Hollywood con su familia y trabajó ya como extra en las comedias silentes de Mac Sennett.
Luego de graduarse del Instituto de Arte Chouinard, ahora el Instituto de Artes de California, empezó a ganarse la vida haciendo retratos de a dólar en un mercado callejero de Los Angeles.
Su primer trabajo fue de lavador de celdillas de animación en 1932, trabajando con el legendario animador Ub Iwerks, de los estudios Disney.
Unos años después comenzó a trabajar como dibujante del estudio Leon Schlesinger, que luego fue vendido a Warner Brothers. Estuvo a cargo de su propia unidad de animación en Warner Brothers hasta el cierre de ésta en 1962.
Creó también varios episodios de la popular serie animada ``Tom y Jerry'' para los estudios MGM.
