However, Semper rescues everyone, but leaves Sturm to perish with the submarine.

He follows Andrews, who has to mop up some enemy tribes. All but Andrews and Stevenson are killed in a battle. They set off to cross the desert to safety, but Stevenson is mortally wounded by pursuing tribesmen. He dies after commending the welfare of his wife to Andrews.

The three seargents and their water carrier, Gunga Din, are taken prisoner and tortured. The british troops approach, but do not know that they are marching into a trap. Gunga Din, though badly wounded, blows a bugle-call to warn them, and then dies. The seargents are rescued, and Gunga Din is given full honours.
