Bennett came to Monticello, Arkansas as a young man from North and South Carolina and Tennessee. He is believed to be a founding if not early member and earliest grave, of Campground/Mt. Pleasant Methodist Episcopal Church and Cemetery, located 10 miles N. of Monticello. His will was signed: 17 March 1879 --- file of the will located in Drew County book - pages 247-248; The will names children as beneficiaries. Bennett and his wife provided two loyal soldiers of the Confederacy - John Alexander Hogue (9th Arkansas Infantry) and William Cordelia Hogue. In book by James Willis -----#726; Hogue, John A. (mustered Pine Bluff) --- Company F, Private - discharged (location not specified) 25 Jul 1862.

My favorite story of how my parents got together: Garland worked in a bank in Eudora, and Koger worked for the Ford agency. She went into the bank one day to deposit some money. When she left, my father (Garland) told a co-worker that Koger was the girl he was going to marry --- even though they had never met. They were married almost 37 years until his death -- just four months shy of their 37th anniversary. Garland worked as an accountant for most of his life, and Koger retired from both the Dillards Department Store and Kate Frank Manor, where she worked as a bookkeeper.
