After managing his mother's farm, Alexander Curry (known as A.C.) joined the Confederate Army. He enlisted in the artillery service under Captain Emmett McDonald. He was captured and taken to Vicksburg. During his career, he participated in the battles of Wilson's Creek, Pea Ridge, the skirmishes at Corinth, the battles of Luka, Baker's Creek, and the siege of Vicksburg. He served as a second lieutenant in the battery for a short time. After the war, A.C. moved to Arkansas and helped to develop Woodruff County. He was married to Barbara Edmonds in 1866, by whom he had two children. He then married Martha Eugenia "Geanie" Jelks (my lineage).

My favorite story of how my parents got together: Garland worked in a bank in Eudora, and Koger worked for the Ford agency. She went into the bank one day to deposit some money. When she left, my father (Garland) told a co-worker that Koger was the girl he was going to marry --- even though they had never met. They were married almost 37 years until his death -- just four months shy of their 37th anniversary. Garland worked as an accountant for most of his life, and Koger retired from both the Dillards Department Store and Kate Frank Manor, where she worked as a bookkeeper.
