As you can probably tell, I am very new to HTML and webpage authoring! Please forgive the 'scitzo' look of the page. RETIREMENTS
Sandra Madelynne (WOFFORD)1)LAKE 2)BROWN, R.N., recently retired from years of service as an administrator for many counties in Oklahoma Public Health Departments. She didn't enjoy retirement and immediately went back to work, this time for the Head-Start program. She has since retired from there as well (1998) and is now working as a consultant for Head-Start throughout the U.S. She is active in mission work, making visits to Israel, Honduras, and Brazil. She taught hygiene and the Gospel to students in some of these countries and was allowed into the school systems where the missionaries were not allowed to go. She and her husband, Earnest James 'Earnie' BROWN have just accepted the lay pastorship of Arpelar Baptist Church, Arpelar, OK. Sandra is active in Sunday School outreach ministries with Frink Baptist Church, McAlester, OK as the administrator of their elder's Sunday School classes, which involves a group of teachers who teach Sunday School lessons to shut-ins and those in nursing homes. I'm going to have to interview her and get all the 'facts!'. Sandra is the daughter of Harry Basil 'Buck' WOFFORD & Daisy Matilda (TAYLOR) 1)SETZER. Sandra is the granddaughter of Frank WOFFORD, Sr. & Alice Emma (RUSH) 1)RIDER. You can send your regards to Sandra at
CAVE CITY - Eula Noba (BALL)BURGE, 86, of Charlotte died Wednesday, March 19, 1997, in Harrison, Arkansas. Born in Charlotte on Nov. 5, 1910, she was the daughter of Commodore and Josephine (MOORE) BALL. She was a homemaker and a member of the Charlotte Church of Christ. Survivors include a son, Charles BURGE of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two daughters, Wanda WILKERSON of Tuckerman and Marion BULLINGTON of Harrison; a sister, Jewell ELLIOTT of Harrison; seven grandchildren, Brenda CHAMBLISS, David WILKERSON, Leah HIGHTOWER, Michael BULLINGTON, Michelle FALLIS, Leslie WOFFORD and Mark BURGE; and 10 great-grandchildren, Sarah CHAMBLISS, Barton CHAMBLISS, Shea WILKERSON, Barton WILKERSON, Joey HIGHTOWER, Ben HIGHTOWER, Shannon FALLIS, Kristie WOFFORD, Karrie WOFFORD and Austin BULLINGTON.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion BURGE; a brother, Benjamin "Buck" Moore BALL; and a granddaughter, Sarah WILKERSON. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22, in the Crouch-McGee Funeral Home Chapel of Cave City with Ralph WALLIS and Neil WILKERSON officiating. Burial will be in Charlotte Cemetery under the direction of Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City. Obituary appeared in 1997, Batesville Daily Guard, Batesville, Arkansas. Submitted by Kristi GROSS. Kristi's note: I have in the database Larry G. WOFFORD, son of _____ WOFFORD and _____ _____, and Leslie G. BURGE applying for a marriage license on 16 August 1977 at Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where part of this family lives is a suburb of Tulsa. Can anyone help connect this family to the main branch of WOFFORDs?
The WOFFORD family recently lost one of it's best genealogical researchers and collectors of WOFFORD family history at the death of Daniel James 'Dan' WOFFORD, Jr., born on 26 September 1936 at Rudy, Crawford County, Arkansas; died on 09 Oct 1998 at Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Burial was at the Love Cemetery, in Alma, Crawford County, Arkansas. He was the son of Daniel James WOFFORD Sr. 1914-1984, and Emily Marie BALL (living in 1999). He was the grandson of Dr. Henry Grady 'Grady' WOFFORD 1891-1972, and Margaret 'Maggie' BROYLES 1890-?, and on his mother's side, Andrew Pinkney BALL Sr. 1888-1969 and Nannie Harrison DOUGLAS. Dan was married to Ella Fern RAY and had three children: Robin Ray WOFFORD, Wade Ray WOFFORD; and Rush Ray WOFFORD. His obituary appeared in the Jay, Oklahoma newspaper. 25 Jan 1999 Our dear cousin, Virginia (MURPHY) SNOW, grandaughter of Mattie Lavina WOFFORD and Charles H. MURPHY is in the hospital. Her daughter Treva states that the doctor thinks it may be her heart. Your prayers are coveted on her behalf. *The location of Unity Baptist Church is not mentioned. Therefore, one may pinpoint its location by writing Piedmont Historical Society, P.O.Box 8096, Spartanburg, SC 29305. In the information that I (KDG)received the name was spelled above as Lucingda, so this isn't a typo on my part, but makes me wonder if it wasn't one by whoever typed it?
