Joseph Nelson

Main character for: Shadow of Intrigue with mentions in Twice Paired.
Created by: Kirsten

Joseph Nelson was thought to have been murdered in the summer of 1860. His sister, Stacy, searched for the killers with the assistance of Louise McCloud and they successfully tracked them down…bringing an end to the danger that those outlaws threatened. Although later leaving behind sorrowful scars and tattered memories of a young man that they both loved with all of their hearts.

Surviving the bullet wound, Joseph was forced to remain under cover in order to save his life and the mission that he had been assigned to. He was not able to tell his sister of his survival, nor was he able to make contact with her until all of the outlaws had been apprehended and he was safe from harm. The Pinkerton Detectives heard about his mishap, and offered him a job with some small investigations…until later that year when he proved himself extremely capable of taking on some of the more challenging missions.

Within a year, Joseph had been promoted to security investigator and Allan Pinkerton's most trusted agent.

Joseph, Stacy, and Louise all grew up together at a small orphanage in St. Joseph, Missouri. They shared a close bond, and felt as if they were each other's family…Joseph and Lou sharing a special kind of love that they hoped would blossom in the years to come…but was unrighteously taken from them without a chance.

Joseph was everything a girl could hope he would be...his tender smile, compassionate heart, and quiet disposition were only a few of the traits that Louise, as well as the other orphan children, found so appealing.

When Lou left to make a living for her younger brother and sister, they remained in contact for a few short months. But, Joseph and Stacy soon moved on as well, and all ties were broken, until Stacy returned a few years later seeking the help of the one girl she could trust…Louise. From there they embarked on a perilous mission that nearly cost their own lives in an attempt to capture the men that they believed had killed Joseph.

Having been required to erase memories of his previous life and the years and days spent at the orphanage, Joseph struggled to get on with his life, working to put an end to crime and the spies that threatened the stability of United States. The only token of his former life as he knew it was a small sketch of his sister, and a tiny locket of hair from Louise, given to him the Christmas before they were all separated. Never did he realize that it would be the last time they were together.

Now, he has been given instructions to find a woman that dressed as a boy and rode for the Pony Express. Allan Pinkerton believes that this young lady will be the perfect person for the volatile mission that the government and president of the United States have requested backup on. Joseph has not seen Louise in several years, and little does he know what he is in for….nor does he realize that the young girl who stole his heart in his youth would so rapidly reappear into his life again.

And worse still, he had no idea that when she was volunteered for this mission it would so intensely threaten her life; a life that he now finds himself wishing he could share with her, forever…
