Gordon McClelland's Flyers

From Gordon (2007):
"I came across this website while doing a search for something else and found what you have done very interesting and informative. It also brought back some good memories. In 1968 I was 17 years old and worked with Orange County, California rock concert promoter John Gardell. I designed concert posters and had a psychedelic light show named the Great Brain Robbery. John met a man who was booking the Illinois Speed Press and C.T.A. We liked both of these bands and hired them for a number of shows in Orange County. Some shows were at John’s local club in Buena Park, the White Room and others at Cal State Fullerton and various colleges. Other bands we worked with during this era included Flying Burrito Brothers, Mothers of Invention, Alice Cooper, Pogo (later Poco), Spirit, Lee Michaels, Blues Image, Black Pearl (Bernie Pearl’s band), and many more LA and OC groups. John especially liked Illinois Speed Press and worked hard to develop a following for them in this area. In my poster collection I found 8 flyers and posters that I designed for concerts featuring this band. In addition I have the poster advertising the Newport Pop Festival with a small mention of them at the bottom. Although they didn’t get much billing on this show, the live performance was very good and went over quite well. In our opinion they were one of the better sounding bands at this event and that is why John felt they deserved more exposure in O.C."
