"We Still Make House Calls"
1976
In 1976 the citizens of the Texanna Road area, North and East of the City of Eufaula, Oklahoma, seeing a need for fire protection, started this fire department with a minimum of equipment and even less money. They formed an association in accordance with the laws of the State of Oklahoma and McIntosh County and cover over 49 square miles. The first truck was an old Dodge Power Wagon 4X4 that was given to us by the Oklahoma State Forestry, from surplus military equipment. Since that time we have grown to be one of the best equipped fire departments in the County. We have 18 volunteer fire fighters and house 5 trucks, with the largest being a 2000 gallon tanker. We also have a class "A" or type 1 pumper which pumps 1000 GPM and carries 1000 gallons. We currently have 2 brush trucks which carry about 500 gallons each and a light rescue truck which carries 120 gallons. We now have over 900 members that subscribe to our fire protection services. The association also conducts bingo once a week, which serves as a source of income above the dues collected each year. We are now in the process of expanding our facilities, we are adding a 50 X 80 four bay building to our current three bays. We have also just finished the construction of a dry hydrant trailer, which will be used to draw water from Lake Eufaula or farm ponds and the dry hydrants in the county.
