Sissy

The "GOOD" the "BAD" and the "UGLY"

Translation:

The "Nice" the "Stubborn" and the "Cute"

This is a story of how Sissy came to our house:

February seems to be the month that Rick buys his toys. Since it is my birthday month, I suppose he likes to think that they are for me! teehee.....Last year he bought a Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1600. I enjoy bike riding, I really do.

About a month after Rick got his bike, I decided I wanted my own, so I scanned the ads and came across this beautiful gem. It was really a lot of fun riding it.
I had the bike only a month, when one day, out for a leisure ride, I happened to of not navigated the road properly and totaled my bike on a guard rail. I wound up with a broken arm, broken thumb, lacerated hand and a broken leg, not to mention all the bumps and bruises too.
This year was the year to buy a four wheeler. YEP! Even got it on the day of my birthday, so technically it is mine. It has more than paid for itself on the farm, fixing fences, moving out and then moving back in! It has even gone turkey hunting!

*************************************************

So now it is my turn! I have wanted a horse ever since I can remember. But have always lived in the city/town. As a child the only thing I could do to get close enough for a horse, was read horse books, and draw them. But try as I might my artistic ability was such that the horses came out looking like a monster from a childhood dream. So I gave up on that idea really quick.

Then I met Rick, fell in love, had three boys, raised them to adulthood, kicked them out of the house, and then we moved. Bought a couple acres out in the country. Yepper!

We knew it would mean more work, but then we would not be sitting in front of the TV all day and night. Little did we know it was work from sun up to sun down! We are lucky to get in our four favorite TV shows. We are so exhausted when bed time rolls around that I am usually sleeping before my head hits the pillow.

Since Rick got his toys, and I tried the motorized horsepower, I finally decided that it was time to get my horse! SO I start to comb the nickel ads, I looked on the internet. I do have to stay with in a budget, so anything to spendy which means Broke and Ridable was out of the question. But "I have all the time in the world to spend with her, I can train her!" Yepper!

I answered an ad for a buckskin that was due to foal in 30 days. That horse was not for me, totally wild! So in the same herd there was Sissy. I asked to see her, and you know how sometimes you just feel that something is right? In your thoughts and in your heart? Well I felt this union was right. So Sissy came to live with us.

The following is Sissy's story in pictures:

Sissy's begginings started out at: R Lazy K Paints in Clarkston, Washington.

The following "baby" photos are complements of the people in Clarkston where Sissy was born.

Below, the photos start where "I" enter Sissy's life:

Sissy getting rounded up when I went to look at her.
In the pasture of horses, Sissy and the black gelding were the only two that came near humans.
Sissy standing pretty for a picture. The horse I originally went to look at was the buckskin one over the top of Sissy's rump.
Sissy, the same day, in our pasture. She still has her winter coat on, and in looking at her now, she looked pretty rugged but I thought she was the most beautiful horse ever!
Sissy a few days later.
Getting nosy, checking out my camera!
Sissy is very intelligent. Show her something once and she knows what to do. Here she is being lunged, doing pretty good.
Enjoying attention!

This photo shows Sissy's eye. I have determined that she can see out of her eye. The person I bought her from stated that at one point she had a stick run into her eye. He did not know if she could see out of it or not. All indications are that she sees just fine. Her eye droops a little bit, but that gives her character.
Sydney and Taumee talking to Sissy. Trying to make friends, but Sydney still is not sure of the horse, since it is quite a bit bigger than her, she is very cautious.
Awe! What beauty! Her awesome blood lines show here. She is a registered paint sired by the great "ALLADIN" a 1993 Palomino Overo Stallion.

You can see him at: R Lazy K Paints in Clarkston, Washington.

Being rode for the second time since I got her. What happened the first time? Well everything happened so fast I could not even get a photo! She lets you put the saddle on her. Let you get in the saddle. Lets you sit there for as long as you like. Ask her to walk around, and down goes her head, up goes her butt, and down you go to the ground. As long as someone walks her she is fine.
Pasture pretty.
Getting a drink!
Since Sissy needs a bit of finese work, I sent her to a friends house. In return I have her horses in my pasture. When Sissy got to the round pen, it was not 5 minutes when she just laid down and rolled in the sand to scratch her back!
Here she is getting up from her roll. But looks like she is just sitting there taking it easy!
Doing exercises.
Working on the "Joining-Up" process. She is now paying attention to her trainer. Asking, "What do I do next?"
Jack the barn cat taking in the horse-training.
Sissy doing running exercises with the saddle. She did do a few back humps to try and shake it off, but then when she decided it was not coming off, she ran very nicely as if she did not have the saddle on.
Standing pretty. Paying attention.
Time to get sacked!
The following are pictures of her with Wal-Mart bags tied all over. They did not faze her in the least and acted as if they were not even tied onto her.
Training continues and hopefully by the end of summer, (or sooner), Sissy and I will be riding, and she will get to go to places and check out different scenery. I hear there is an awesome trail from South Shore Drive in Umatilla to Irrigon, along the river. Can't wait to check that out!

UPDATE: 2008

Sissy has been training and shown in halter shows. She even won a first place, two seconds and a third! I knew she had it in her! LOL

Sissy then went to boot camp. She went to a local feedlot and got to herd the cows around. She even opened gates. Cows bumped into her and everything and nothing bothered her. The cowboy told me she did just awesome. I do not have photos of her working cows.

Then a good friend, was going to surprise me, and took Sissy out along the trail that follows the Columbia River. Sissy did great! Both enjoyed their rides.

Then my favorite photo is:

Hope you have enjoyed the photos, and I will be adding more new ones as they come up. Jody
