I found out not long ago that I knew someone who turned out to be a serial killer. Even though it surprised me....... I reminded my friend who told me this that I had been terrified of Dave McCall without knowing why. I found out later several of the girls that hung out around this group of friends were afraid of Dave, too. Now we all know why...... some of us must have 'picked up on something' about Dave that others didn't.

Let's start here...... I am friends with three brothers, Johnny, Mike and David. They were the main core of this large group of friends - teenagers back in the early eighties in this small texas town. It would be impossible to get us all together at the same time, but this was a huge group. People would drift into this group and out...... I think always someone has managed to keep in touch with those who seemed to drift away...... as Dave has......

This Dave McCall happens to be the father of Johnny, Mike and Davids' niece. I do not know her. But David told me she recieves letters from prison from Dave telling her he is not guilty.

My own personal memories of Dave are that he always seemed in deep thought. He was aloof, older than the rest of us..... 27 years old I think, and I thought it was strange that he hung around a bunch of teenagers. He had tired eyes...... and I remember actually overcoming my fear of him and becoming friends of sort with him. This is all because of a snickering peer group. Who made me feel stupid for being afraid for 'no reason'. After my initial fear of Dave he seemed to be nice. And sometimes had a tender look in his eyes when he smiled.

One night at a party I attended..... the get together-get drunk kind, he took up for me when some guy who'd drank too much wouldn't leave me alone. He sat next to me, then put his arm around me, then when that didn't work he told the guy to just leave me alone. This guy got angry and I thought for a moment they were going to get into a fight. But it cooled quickly.

Surprisingly, though, I had had a bad experience involving Dave. Before I tried to be friends with him. Being 16, I guess I made the effort to be friends with him because he was so close to the group at the time. And he was - very close. Unfortunately the story involves my friend Johnny who thought he was being funny at the time. Let's just say he and Dave made me believe they were going to rape me. (And, no, Johnny, I've never really forgiven you for that!) Little did Johnny know at the time, Dave had raped before.

In my possession, I have only one picture of Dave that I took myself. It's in a negative that I will have to get developed. He is standing on my parents back porch with two other friends holding a very large bag of weed and smiling. This picture was taken for Johnny who was in the pen at the time.

I think Mike has pics of Dave that if he brings them down from Dallas, I can scan them for my site. Although I think my friends think it silly I want to do this.
