Yashwanth
Kangen is part-owner
of the family-owned Maha Mysore Boat Bldg Ent. - a boatyard established by his
father, late Keshav A. Kangen in 1969. He is involved with the yard and wooden boat construction since
the earliest days of the yard. In 1978, having
undergone training, he started fibreglass boat production at Maha Mysore.
He has developed several new types of boats which have proven technically
and commercially very successful. Some of his works are:
|
|
Developed fibreglass seagoing canoes which combine
the efficient hull-form of the time-honoured Indian seagoing dugout canoes with
the advantages of modern day FRP. They
have proven very successful in sea fishing along the coasts of Karnataka,
Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep and in Oman – 1978
|
|
Developed the highly successful series of 15.8 mt
long wooden combination outrigger trawlers of 18-day voyage endurance for
operation in the treacherous sea conditions of the Bay of Bengal - 1985
|
|
Developed
FRP kattumarans that are provided with a unique stabilizing system and several other advantages as
replacement craft for the traditional log-raft
fishing kattumarans of the East Coast - 1990
|
|
Developed
12 and 14 mt long twin-screw wooden hull tugs for the Lakshadweep Islands Admin.
for ship-to-shore transfer, inter-island ferry, water barge towing and
for missing vessels searching - 1993
|
|
Built and exported wooden ocean-cruising
motor-sailboats meeting European designer’s requirements - two of these boats
have sailed across the Atlantic in both directions and earned high acclaim at
the La Rochelle Boat Show - 1997

He has at his disposal a
large pool of experienced manpower as well as the facilities needed for undertaking construction of a variety of boat types. The construction facilities are not confined to Mangalore but situated at places having better access to
the resources a particular boat type requires.
Take advantage of the lower cost of skilled manpower
and get your boat built here. Choose one of the standard boats
shown on the accompanying pages, or have their basic hull fitted out
to a layout designed by you. Boats can be supplied bare shell or complete.
Owners/designers are also invited to discuss getting their
design custom-built by him. Furnish study prints and bill of
materials of your design for a quote.
Production boatbuilders can explore the possibility of getting hulls and
other parts of their series produced boats hand lay-up moulded by him in moulds
and materials supplied either by them or by him.
Moulding
of FRP parts for other applications as per your design is also undertaken.
Yashwanth Kangen also undertakes marine related services and liaison work in the region. Contact
from boat designers and other boat-builders too is welcomed with the aim of pooling resources and
offering the customer a wider range of products and services.
