OGRYN ALERT!!
It is my opinion that Ogryns are one of the most underestimated troop types in the whole of the 41st millenium. Many imperial commanders go to war without even a single unit of these lumbering monstrosities to wreak havoc with the enemy’s finest troops. Everyone complains that the Imperial Guard are too weak in close assaults, so surely Ogryns are the perfect choice for the army?? With an assault value of 4 they would make worthy opponents of most enemies to the Imperium.
Anyway, enough of my ranting on about the exploits of my fellow gamers. For all I know you, the reader, may always take vast regiments to war with you. The purpose of this web site is to make a first publishing of my new Campaign/Expansion set for Games Workshop's Epic 40K. This is, not surprisingly, based around OGRYNS. I would be grateful for any feedback from you about the rules, background, Charectors etc. from first impressions or if you try them in a game. As I say this is the first publishing of the project and so is bound to grow in the future! But it would do so far better with the input from fellow gamers and enthusiasts. Thank you.
The Defenders Of Chameleon 5
During the rising of the great Ork Warlord Tuffskull Rotglum, many of the imperial border settlements near the Eastern Fringe were subject to piratical raids from the Orks as they attempted to gain power and status. Chameleon 5 was one of the most desolate of the inhabited planets in the area, and a favorite target for many of the attacks.
Chameleon 5 is a planet used by the Imperium mainly for training recruits from the surrounding area. Its high gravity and vastly changeable weather system made it perfect for all levels of survival training. However, its high gravity made it hard for average humans to spend long periods of time on the planet, risking deformation from stress on the body. Although fixable, it was hard to find many instructors who were willing to take the challenge of 5 years gradually getting shorter. It was to this end that the Imperium decided to enroll Ogryns - Big and tough enough to handle the Climate, whilst not clever enough to complain. Leading the Ogryns would be the one man who had volunteered for the role – Captain Birzcran of the 54th Besiegers. After a few hours of expensive surgery, he was ready for the conditions and his staff were ready to train the recruits. It was decided that the planet, as with all planets in the Imperium should also be equipped with a small defence force. This was provided for by the 92nd Penal Company. These men, though all thieves and scoundrals all made good fighters, and were in no postition to complain about the conditions.
With the Arrival of Tuffskull’s horde, the Imperium realized the risk to their territory and dispatched over 100,000 Ogryns and other Imperial Guardsmen along with much needed heavy equipment from the surrounding area to fortify the planet and ensure its safety. If they could hold that one planet, they thought they may have time to dispatch a fleet and save the whol area from the Maroading hordes of Orks.
The not-so-bright defenders held of the piratical assaults with apparent ease but Captain Birzcran had the feeling that a far bigger event was to come. He started to organize the resources available to him into efficient fighting units. What members of the Adeputus Medical Corps were stationed on the planet worked day and night on the intelligence of the Ogryns - creating the troops known as boneheads. The members of the Adeputus Mechanicus sent with the mechanized reinforcements (those which actually made it through all the Kill Kruza's!!) worked furiously to enable the Ogryns to use the Equipment they had bought (headroom for one thing was lacking).
After six months of hard work, intelligence implants and fighting off Ork raiders, the big assault came. The army list which follows shows the organization of the defenders at the time. More details of each unit type may be found by clicking on the unit name at the end of the list. Please note that this site is still being constructed (probably as U think about it) so some of the links may not be up nd running yet - sorry for any inconvenience.
Chameleon 5 was cut off from the rest of the Imperium by the ever growing Waaagh! Rotglum before most of the re-inforcements could get through. Almost 50,000 Ogryns, a handful of green imperial guard, A company of un-loyal penal troopers and limited mechanized troops were now stranded to face their fate.
