Glenn, valiant swordsman and wanderer, trudged through the darkness of the Forbidden Forest. The trees reached toward him as he walked through. The blackened boughs bent eerily toward him. He wore brown leather armor tied with leather straps in the back, tall protective leather boots, a metal shield and a large sword was in its sheath on his back. His short hair was drenched in sweat from the trek through the heavy brush.

Hearing a rustling not too far off, he withdrew his legendary sword, the Masamune. The Masamune was a sword that could only be wielded by a true hero and was the only sword that could slay Magus the evil mage. Magus had killed Glenn's previous master while Glenn was a mere squire boy. The young warrior could sense a dark presence nearby.

"Its a bit late for a child to be running around the forest now isn't it," taunted a sinister voice that seemed to echo throughout the whole forest. Glenn swirled around as the voice spoke again, "And such a large sword for a pathetic squire, too. You might hurt yourself."

CRASH!!! A loud sound came from in front of Glenn as a tree ignited and fell over. The falling tree revealed a man clad in a blue vest and pants, a long navy blue cape, long tan leather gloves that extended to his elbow, and tall tan leather boots, floating behind it. He had a ghastly pale face, pointy ears like an elf, and icy blue eyes that had a fire in them nonetheless.

From his observations Glenn was able to identify the floating man as Magus. "You might get yourself killed like that fool Cyrus," Magus said. The words echoed in Glenn's mind, That fool Cyrus. "I have come to slay thee Magus, for Cyrus," declared Glenn. That fool Cyrus. "Ah, so having the Masamune suddenly makes you skilled enough to finish me for good now doesn't it," Magus said while landing a few feet in front of Glenn, "Maybe you won't foul it up like that bumbling idiot did."

That fool Cyrus. The mage's words still echoed in Glenn's mind. That fool Cyrus. That fool Cyrus. "No!" yelled an enraged Glenn, "I will not let you speak of him like that!"
"Ah and you also developed a bit of a temper over these past years, now haven't you?" Magus inquired in a mocking tone. Magus turned around and held out his right hand. He muttered a few words and fire erupted from his gloved hand. The burst incinerated some of the tall dark trees, making a large circular clearing. "Lets see what you can do then," challenged Magus as he glided to the opposite of the clearing.

Cyrus I shall avenge thee, Glenn thought as the walked to the circular clearing. Magus pulled a large scythe out of seemingly nowhere. Glenn held the Masamune to his right as he charged at Magus. Glenn raised his sword to strike.

Stationary, Magus then brought up his scythe to catch Glenn's sword in the arcing blade. Magus threw Glenn away from him and swung his scythe laterally. Glenn ducked and started an upward slash. Magus jumped away from the legendary blade.

Crash! Crack! Bam! Lightning erupted from the ground from five places not three inches from Glenn. The resulting shockwave from the thunder threw Glenn to the ground. Glenn scrambled to his feet as Magus flew at him. Glenn brought his sword up to block the scythe, not seeing Magus's leg swinging around. Magus's knee connected with Glenn's chest, knocking Glenn on his back once again. Magus landed five feet from Glenn with his back turned. He laughed cruelly.

Time to use some magic of my own, thought Glenn while he remained on the ground. He put his hand to his forehead and focused as hard as he could. A small tornado-like gust swirled around Magus. He stopped his laughing and slashed his scythe, causing the winds to die out and dissipate.

"You and Cyrus were never good at using magic, now were you?" Magus called out from behind the shroud of his cape. That fool Cyrus. Glenn yelled in fury and jumped quickly to his feet.

Glenn charged at Magus, quickly turning to a green blur. Glenn slashed, knocking Magus's scythe out of his hands. The scythe flipped through the air, landing like a flag posted to claim territory.

Glenn stood at the complete opposite of the clearing somewhat dazed at what he had done. Did I just move as fast as I thought I had? "I see you finally have mastered the dashing technique that Cyrus used. Lets hope you don't overuse it, for your sake," Magus said, somewhat shocked at first but quickly regaining his composure.

He held out his hand as his scythe flew to his hand. "Let's back to it again now, shall we?" Magus said while adjusting his gloves, "This time I won't hold back." Magus slid his scythe back into the nothingness of his cape. Magus hovered into the air, with his hands glowing with energy. Glenn readied his sword and walked around the circle to remain as far away from Magus as possible at all times. Magus suddenly stopped in mid-air and put his hands out in front of him. Glenn dove to his left as quickly as he could, feeling a large amount of heat. pass his feet. Magus then directed his hands towards the ground, then brought them up with one swift motion.

Several bolts of lightning erupted from the whole clearing. Glenn dodged between two bolts and used the Masamune to absorb the charge of another. Glenn quickly glanced to see that the Masamune had safely absorbed the electricity without shocking him.

Finally some luck. Magus, now temporarily spent, fell to the ground. Glenn raced over to him ready to bring his sword down. Magus anticipated Glenn's strike and grabbed his hands before Glenn could slash. He quickly kicked Glenn in the stomach and jumped into the sky once again. Glenn got up and held his sword and shield in a defensive position. Magus drew energy into his hands once again. He flung six fireballs towards Glenn. Glenn ducked under one, held his shield up to block another, as the other four hit the ground nearby burning the meager grass.

Magus charged at Glenn while he was still hidden behind the shield. Glenn got up from the defensive position as Magus tackled him. Magus drove him directly into a tree. Magus withdrew to regain his breath. Glenn fell to his knees gasping for air. He felt a sharp pain is his lower ribs. Magus aimed his palm directly at Glenn while a large ball of lighting formed in his hand. Glenn quickly used his magic to throw his sword directly at Magus as he launched the lightning.

The Masamune absorbed the energy and cut through part of Magus's left sleeve, soaring into one of the trees on the other side, where it stuck. Magus released a short cruel laugh and then said, "Is that all you can do?" Glenn quickly ran around to the Masamune. As soon as Magus realized what Glenn was doing he fired a beam of water in Glenn's path. Glenn dove over it and then under the next that Magus fired and grabbed the Masamune from its perch in the tree just in time to raise his shield to block the next stream of water. Magus stopped firing in frustration and started motioning in foreign movements with his hands. Glenn recognized that as a preparation for Dark Matter, a spell so strong that it severely weakened Magus just to cast it. He then cast a black ball into the middle of the arena where it remained for a few seconds.

Suddenly the dark orb exploded washing the clearing in blackness. Glenn couldn't see anything anymore other than himself.

The Masamune started shining and a golden orb formed around Glenn before the cursed evil swept over him. He saw his surrounding slowly come back. The dreary forest seemed like a lush garden after the total blackness.

Magus was standing on the far side of the clearing with a confused look on his face. Apparently he did not expect me to survive. Glenn decided to take advantage of Magus's confusion and dashed directly at Magus. Magus quickly regained his bearings and started firing volleys of fire, lightning and water at Glenn.

Cyrus, protect me. As soon as he thought it a silver transparent barrier formed in front of Glenn. The barrier blocked Magus' barrage of attacks, dissolving them completely. Glenn brought up the Masamune to strike and used his magic to speed its descent upon Magus' frame. The sword cut from Magus' right shoulder to his left abdomen.

Magus stood there with a blank stare for a second and slumped onto the ground.

Glenn put the Masamune back into its sheath and replaced his shield upon his back. "Cyrus, I hath avenged thee."
