This is a small piece I worked on during a spare at school. It’s short, but it has a few laughs. Feedback is appreciated, but if you find any spelling errors, consider first that I am Canadian.

Note: You will understand the story if you have watched the show for any reasonable length of time. Those who have only been watching for a year or two may not get all the references. I wrote this several months ago.
Disclaimer: The town of Salem and the characters referred to in this piece are not mine. They are the property of the television show Days of Our Lives and are being borrowed for my own personal pleasure. No infringement is intended and I am not making any money off of this.

Their Town: Salem, USA
By: Paula

There is a mid-sized town not too close to any other, yet not too far either. If you look for it on a map, you gaze until your eyes become weary and shut, yet it is the home of an international airport with several fights to Rome and Paris daily. It is a town in the mid-west with a pier that connects directly to the ocean. The Pacific? The Atlantic? No one knows. Situated in this town are other international sites. A major conglomerate, with all the executive positions being filled by one family. A world renowned teaching hospital which seems to have 2-3 intensive care units, one being occupied by a still comatose priest, and a similar number of doctors who seem to handle all the important calls. One of these is barely, if even, out of medical school. Only one restaurant seems to sell chowder, which is claimed to be the best in the world, but never seems to have many patrons. Perhaps it is their policy of closing every other day for family gatherings. Coffee can only be found in a fast-food outlet at the town's only mall. Furthermore, it is astounding that every person in the town is beautiful save two - a nun and a nut. What is astounding about this is, the massive level of inbreeding that occurs locally. It seems that every resident is related to the all the others - even those seeming to be newcomers. The divorce level is shockingly low, because every marriage either ends in the chapel, or through annulment. People also seem to have an obscene amount of free time, despite high-ranking jobs. It is not uncommon to see a uniformed servant walking down the street, attesting to the mean level of income. Yes, these qualities and many others make this town called Salem unique.

A vampire howls as the sun sets for another five-day-long night.
