Peacefully at home with his family on January 9, 2016 at 84 years of age. Born Montreal, Quebec on April 15, 1931. Son of the late Alphonse Toner and Nora Hope Brodeur. Educated at Trinity College School, Port Hope; McGill University (Dawson College), Montreal and Dalhousie University, Halifax. Survived by his best friend and loving wife of 53 years, Heather Ruth (nee Gordon); and four boys, Grant (Susan), Philippe (Sam), Charles (Vivian), René; and 7 loving grandchildren, Dominic, Louis, Jake, Payton, Avery, Drake and Giselle. Predeceased by his brother, Michael; and survived by his brothers, James Brodeur and Christopher Brodeur; sisters-in-law, Ruth Brodeur, Barbara Brodeur and Rita Dahlke; brothers-in- law, Peter Gordon and the late Gerry Gordon.
After graduating from TCS at 16, Pat attended McGill and finished his economics degree at Dalhousie where he was a Zeta Psi. While at Dal he joined the navy and became a deep sea demolition expert clearing explosives after the war. In the late 50s, he started working with his father at Cassidy's which he expanded first to Toronto and then across Canada over the coming decades. He led trade delegations to China, Western and Eastern Europe in the early 60s and 70s and became chairman of the Canadian Importers Association. He held many responsibilities in the Toronto Community including the building of Mooredale Pool and working with the Rosedale Moorepark Association and Caledon Ski Club. Pat was a past member of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, an enthusiastic golfer at the Toronto Hunt and a regular (and competitive) bridge player at the B&R.
Friends and family are invited to a funeral service that will be held at Christ Church Deer Park (Yonge and Heath) on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to www.covenanthousetoronto.ca and the World Wildlife Fund www.wwf.ca.

He had 3 UNTD summers; '49, '50, '51 and was commissioned as an A/SLT RCN(R), sen. 1 Jul '51, O-8963, attached to STADACONA. He would have been promoted to SLT the following year, attached to SCOTIAN and was retired as such.

He graduated from Dalhousie with a BComm in 1953.

Nigel Brodeur, a year younger, was also a Cadet in that time frame, the two overlapping in the summer of '51, but on opposite coasts. My understanding is that any familial connection between them was not very direct.
