Virgil

Hometown: Unknown

Height: Unknown

Weight: Unknown

Finisher: Million Dollar Dream

Career:
Virgil first came into the WWF as "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase's bodyguard when Ted debuted in 1987. Does anyone remember back in the late 80s when Virgil actually had some muscle definition? Even then however, who's brilliant idea was it to give Virgil the roll of a bodyguard? We have a million dollar man, and he’s suppose to have hired a bodyguard who is actually smaller then himself? Virgil never did much as a bodyguard anyway. I can sum up his entire career in the WWF until 1991 pretty quick.

WrestleMania 4, Hogan suplexed him in the aisle.

Royal Rumble 1989, Big John Studd knocks him around a little after the match and throws him out of the ring as well.

Survivor Seres 1989, Jake Roberts DDTs Virgil.

That pretty much sums up everything until 1991. Other then those instances, Virgil stood around the ring and looked stupid.

Royal Rumble 1991 was a large milestone in the career of Virgil. He went from being a forgettable heel sidekick, to a living joke. It all started as Virgil actually wrestled with Ted, against Dusty and Dustin Rhodes. Ted shoves Virgil around for screwing up during the match and goes on to win it himself. After the match, Ted humiliates Virgil, Virgil nails Ted with the Million Dollar Championship, and Virgil is a face and out of the shadow of Ted Dibiase. Although it was soon very apparent why Virgil was hidden in the shadows for so long. On a side note, the pop for Virgil hitting Ted with the belt was huge. Chalk that one up to ignorance to just how pathetic Virgil really was.

At this point, Roddy Piper took Virgil under his wing to get him ready for a match against Ted at WrestleMania 7. Although it was never said straight out to fans, it's pretty obvious that the training with Piper is where Virgil was suppose to have gotten all his boxing moves. Why couldn't Piper have taken Virgil with him on one of his twenty different retirements from wrestling instead? Oh yeah, the match. Match was nothing to write home about, although it was longer then five minutes so that puts it a notch above most of the WrestleMania 7 card. Ends in a cheap victory for Virgil as Ted is busy with Piper and gets counted out.

So next up is obviously SummerSlam 1991, and Ted wants a rematch, and Virgil wants the Million Dollar Championship, so it's a match for the belt. Virgil actually worked in a nice spot, as he planchas over the top rope but misses, and takes a brutal bump on the floor. Ends with Virgil slamming Ted's head into an exposed turnbuckle, that Ted exposed himself of course, and Virgil covers him for the three count and the belt. Piper is celebrating as much as Virgil since it looked like that was as close as he would come to a championship. Lucky for Piper, his crappy announcing would land him back in the ring and he claimed the IC title a few months later.

Time for Survivor Series 1991, but wait a minute, is that Ted Dibiase with the Million Dollar Championship belt? It sure is! Looks like Virgil lost it back to Ted already. What a dynasty Virgil left behind with that title rein. For those of you wondering, Repo Man made his WWF debut to help Ted regain the title. Again I wondering, with no disrespect to a great character like Repo Man, why would someone with as much money as Dibiase hire Repo Man to help him? He could have gotten anyone. Anyway, the match itself was the first WWF PPV victory for Ric Flair. The booking team got lazy and after Warlord and the Bulldog are pinned, everyone got DQed except Flair giving him the victory. A Survivor Series lazy finish only surpassed by the Team Vader/Team Yokozuna match in 1996 where after two eliminations everyone is DQed. That crappiness had nothing to do with Virgil however, so lets move on.

Royal Rumble 1992 is up next where Virgil shows up and is eliminated. Who cares?

WrestleMania 8 where Virgil, Bossman, Hacksaw and Duggan faced The Mountie, Repo Man and The Nasty Boys. A few weeks earlier, Sid broke Virgil's nose by slamming it into the turnbuckle. Not an exposed turnbuckle mind you, just into the padding. A normal wrestler gets slammed into it ten times and just falls down. Once from Sid however shatters Virgil nose. Good job building his credibility up, WWF! Guess everyone realized by then it was a lost cause anyway. He also wore a guard to protect his nose, just like Test did after his broken nose from DX. That's right, WWF recycled an angle that was used on... VIRGIL! People wonder where all Test's heat went from the wedding angle? Again I say, they recycled an angle that was used on... VIRGIL! That match itself? It breaks out into a huge brawl and Virgil ends up with a pin on one of the Nasty Boys.

This is where things really went downhill for Virgil.

SummerSlam 92? Nailz destroys Virgil.

Survivor Series 92? Yokozuna destorys Virgil.

Royal Rumble 93? WWF saves themselves time booking future PPV matches for Virgil and has multiple people destroy Virgil.

That was the end of PPV Virgil, until a year later when he made his glorious return to PPVs, and picked right up where he left off.

Royal Rumble 1994, Diesel is on his monster run going through everyone, and out comes Virgil. He hits the ring and lands about three punches. Too bad for Virgil he just went through his entire arsenal of moves, so it's time to go home. Diesel nails about two forearms and dumps Virgil like a piece of garbage out of the ring. At least Ted Dibiase, who was announcing the event, liked it. I thought it was pretty good as well though.

That was it for Virgil in the WWF, thankfully.

Thought I would wrap it up with my favorite Virgil moment. It was Survivor Series 1992, after his match with Yokozuna where Virgil was beaten about eight different ways. Lord Alfred Hayes goes backstage to get a word with Virgil, who looks be about half dead laying on a bench in the locker room. Virgil basically tells everyone to be careful because Yokozuna is a monster. I just like how Virgil is suppose to be half dead, and he's just left laying in a empty locker room. Alfred doesn't even stick around and just takes off after the interview as Virgil moans in pain.
