Joan Crawford Memorable Quotes: From The Women (1939)  "THANKS FOR THE TIP. BUT WHEN ANYTHING I WEAR DOESN'T PLEASE STEPHEN, I TAKE IT OFF."   "HE ALMOST STOOD ME UP FOR HIS WIFE."   "THERE'S A NAME FOR YOU LADIES, BUT IT ISN'T USED IN HIGH SOCIETY, OUTSIDE OF A KENNEL."   From Female on the Beach (1955)   "I'D LIKE TO ASK YOU TO STAY AND HAVE A DRINK, BUT I'M AFRAID YOU MIGHT ACCEPT."   From Humoresque (1946)   "I SAY SOMETHING STUPID AND YOU LAUGH, YOUR STUPID TEDDY."

Lucille Fay LeSuer changed her name to Joan Crawford after there was a contest in 'Photoplay' magazine. Our Dancing Daughters, 1928, was her breakthrough, leading to stardom. In 1923 MGM signed her under contract, a contract that lasted eighteen years. By the early 40's MGM claimed she was 'box office poison,' but in 1943 she signed a contract with Warner Brothers which brought some of her best work. She married five times, her last marriage in 1955 was to the Chairman of the Board of Pepsi Cola which Joan remained with till his death in 1959. Joan stayed with Pepsi till 1972. Joan quit appearing in films after 1974, turning to the vodka bottle instead. She died in 1977, leaving nothing in her will for son Christopher and daughter Christina.

I have not seen all of Joan's pictures but from what I have seen Mildred Pierce is by far her best performance.
