PLAYSTATION VIDEO

Here are a bunch of programs that let's you view FMV sequences of your PlayStation games on your PC. None of them are official tools and some known to lock up systems requiring a restart, so run the programs by themselves.
You will need WinZip or any other unzip program to unzip the downloads.

Metal Gear Solid                                                                  Mortal Kombat 4

STRplay 0.9                Download Now (35.5KB, zipped)

This program can play videos directly off a PSX game without first being converted with PSXVideo. This program plays data files on the PSX CD that have a .str or .fmv extension. This program has a small size (75KB) and is pretty fast compared to other psx video players. Once you have downloaded the program, unzip it and double click on Strplay.exe.  In the Option Menu select Prescan, Smooth, Vzoom & Tmp Erase. Using the seek bar at the bottom you can stop the video sequence at the desired frame and copy it. Then you can paste it into an imaging program like MS Photo Editor, Imaging For Windows or Adobe Photoshop. STRplay 0.9 was developed in 1998 by Soltin Software.

                                          TR                                                              Final Fantasy 7

PSXVideo 1.20         Download Now (103KB, zipped)

This program converts videos (.str, .fmv or .mov) from most PlayStation  games to AVIs which can be easily played on your PC. Once you have downloaded the program, unzip it and double click on Psxvideo.exe. In the Option Menu, put the Convert Speed to Fast, the Convert Mode to normal or to FF 7 if you are using Final Fantasy 7. Select Display from the Display option, put the Display Size to Normal Size, Video Size Correct to No Ask and the Frame Rate to Auto. The default Gamma Correct is 100. Finally in the Compress Option, choose Microsoft Video 1 or Intel Indeo Video 4.3 from the Compressor list. The Intel Indeo compressor makes for smaller AVI's than Microsoft Video 1. If you like super-high quality AVI's, pick Microsoft's codec, but if you want to save a considerable amount of space, pick Intel Indeo. The conversion is much longer with MS Video 1 compared to Intel Indeo Video 4.3. Feel free to choose any other video format from the list if you have the necessary codecs installed. Then put the Compression Quality to 100, the Key Frame to 4, the Data Rate to 300. Before converting the Sony Playstation video sequence, you can preview it by selecting Preview from the File Menu.

If your Playstation disc looks blank, you've probably got "show hidden files" turned off in Windows 95/98. Open "My Computer" and pull down the "View" menu to "Folder Options...". Click the "View" tab at the top of the window that comes up and and select "Show All Files".
