On their horses, travelling at a walking pace -- the hard work’s behind them now, and they can take it easy.
What’re you gonna do with your days off when we get back to Rock Creek, Kid?
KID Actually, I was thinkin’ of doin’ somethin’ with them before I get back.
(beat)
Before we get back.
LOU
Like what?
KID
Well, we’re comin’ up on a little town. s’posed to be real quiet. S’posed to have a restauraunt where you can get a real fine meal.
He smiles at the thought of it:
The kind of place where men take off their hats.
LOU
(grins, but:)
I don’t know about you, but seein’ as how I’m supposed to be a man, I’m better off in the kind of place where I can leave my hat on.
KID
But that’s just it. You wouldn’t have to pretend. You could dress up like a lady and we could have a real night on the town.
LOU
Kid, I didn’t bring anything to wear...
KID
You don’t have to wear anything!
(blushes) I mean, I don’t care what you wear. I just want to be with you.
Lou smiles again -- Kid’s boyish enthusiasm is infectious. Not to mention suspicious.
How come you know so much about this town?
KID
(non-commital)
I asked around.
He looks at Lou, a mischevious glint in his eye.
C’mon Lou. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
Something about Kid is irresitable to Lou. There’s actually a hint of shyness in her voice when she says
All right.
(beat)
What’s the name of this town, anyway?
KID
Davenport.
