Elizabeth "Eli" Fowler

Main Character for Skeletons
Created by Aimee

Chloe Elizabeth Fowler was born in New York on July 19, 1843. She lived on a farm near a small town until she was nine. That year, a drought destroyed the harvest, and the Fowler farm was repossessed by the bank when they couldn't make their loan payments. Her father, Christopher, moved his family to New York City, hoping to find steady work. There, Chloe began going by her middle name, Elizabeth, to avoid the teasing she had endured at her old school. Elizabeth spent the next five years experiencing the rich culture of New York City. Her family lived near the docks where her father worked as a ship loader.

Elizabeth's father saved all the money he could, and when she was fourteen, he moved his family once again, this time to the beautiful mountains of Colorado. He bought some land at the foot of the Rockies, and along with his father, tried his hand at ranching. Here, the whole family was expected to help out, and it was at this time Elizabeth learned to ride a horse. She was a natural on horseback, and before long, it looked as if she had been riding her whole life.

The Fowlers lived on their ranch for a year, when one fateful day her father and grandfather were murdered by cattle rustlers. Elizabeth helped her mother, Leah, pack up their home and said goodbye to her and her three younger brothers and sisters, Jason, Patrick, and Laura. Elizabeth and her older brother, Luke, moved to Denver to look for jobs. Elizabeth soon had a job working in the General Store, but Luke could not find employment. He became depressed, and soon became involved in a gang of outlaws. Elizabeth was unaware of what was going on, and became an unwilling participant in Luke's life of crime. By the time she found out what was going on, she was too deeply involved to go to the law. Luke swore she would be implicated with him if she did not remain involved in his illegal acts. In desparation, Elizabeth ran away. At the age of sixteen, she cut off her hair and took on the appearance of a boy so Luke would not find her.

For a year, Eli, as Elizabeth was now called, drifted from job to job, never staying in one place too long, for fear that somebody would discover her masquarade, or that Luke would find her. Then, she saw a sign advertising for the Pony Express and applied for the job of Express rider. When she was hired, she thought it would be the end of her running for a while. But unfortunately, it was not to be. Soon, the skeletons of her past would return to haunt her.

Just days after Eli came to the Rock Creek station, her brother Luke, working for Lou's father, who happened to be alive unbenownst to the riders, showed up at the station looking for Lou. Recognizing Elizabeth's horse in the corral, he called out a threat to her, giving her disguise away to Rachel, who it turned out, already knew. Rachel promised not to tell the riders, and she and Lou are the only ones who know "Eli's" true identity. Of course, as Rachel says, the boys and Teaspoon are bound to find out sooner or later, but for now, this is where the history of Chloe Elizabeth Fowler ends.
