Victoria Sutton was born and raised in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She grew up in a loving home, cherished by her mother and doted on by her father and older brother Arthur. Victoria lacked nothing of the best things in life, her father made sure of that. She was very wealthy and very beautiful.
Though she had all the things a girl would want, Victoria never had the priviledge of experiencing true love. Male suitors were not lacking and she discerned that many an interested courter loved her money more than they cared for her.
Victoria Sutton had grown up with a silver spoon in her mouth. She had the best of everything; her father made sure of that, being as she was, his only daughter. Money though meant very little to her. She knew it couldn't buy the happiness she sought. She wanted a simpler life, away from the big city, from the monotony and wretchedness of life a woman of her means was expected to live.
There wasn't anything a man could give Victoria that she couldn't afford to get on her own, except love. She reckoned she could probably buy that too, the way men kept calling, vying for her affections, meaning as she saw it, 'getting to her bed to get to her money.' As of this day no man had ever come close to conquering her heart. She wanted a man who would see her not as a big dollar sign, but as who she really was; a woman with passion, full of life, ready to love. Was there really such a man out there for her? she wondered, or was she destined to be enslaved in a loveless marriage, never knowing what real love was all about.
Her perfect world crumbled when she lost her brother and best friend Arthur when he was killed on an Army expedition. Her mother followed suit and eventually her father fell into the grasps of death itself. Being now, the only surviving heir to her family's fortune, she made her way out West to fulfill her dying father's last wish...To secure the land he'd purchased as an inheritance for his children.
Victoria knew she'd have to be strong to survive in a world were a woman's place was deemed at home and not running a business. She had seen the ruthlessness of a businessman's life and with her father's training, she was prepared to face a world where her will to survive would ultimately be tested.
"I know the world people like us are well familiar with. It's like a snake pit. In order for one to survive, one has to be just like them; cold blooded, sly, ready to strike your enemy first before they strike you. It's an art in itself you know, and I learned it from the best."
Mr. Arnold could not help but be impressed by this young woman in front of him. She was smart, strong-willed, not easily intimidated. He had to laugh within himself to think of the poor soul who would dare tangle with her.
Yes, Victoria Sutton knew she had to be strong to survive in this male-dominated world.
She had to be determined not to be devoured by the wolves who looked at her as a helpless and naive woman; and using all of her resources to stay ahead of the pack would be vital.
To fulfill her father's wish and maybe in a way looking for a new start away from the only way of life she'd ever known, she left Philadelphia and headed out West to the small town of Rock Creek.
Little did she know that her trip to Rock Creek would be the turning point in her life.
On her way to Rock Creek she finds trouble on the way and is aided by the good kind people of the Pony Express Station. Her stay would change her life forever as she claims the heart of two of its riders. It was "A Time For Love".
She wanted a man who would fulfill her desires, her passions, someone to totally consume her in his love; a man with whom she could share every possible crevice of her being.
But love, she soon came to realize wasn't as easy a game to play. Love she did have for these two riders but in much different ways. Victoria knew she had finally found the love of her life but in order for her dream to be realized she'd have to break the heart of one and fight to keep the other.
Two riders in love with the same woman. One woman looking for true love. Who will she choose?
