goth: a culture that sprung out of the late '70s and early '80s
that is most widely known by people that wear black most of the time, listen to Bauhaus,
The Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Requiem in White, and other such bands,
think about d`eath, vampires and other dark subjects, and also indulge in drugs and
alcohol quite a bit.
There is more behind it than just that, though.
Goth is mostly a way of looking at life. Individuality is a main role in this as well
as creativity and self expression. Wearing black is one of the ways that goths express
themselves. Not all people that wear black are goths though. Someone might wear all black
but not be a goth at all. Writing poetry, stories and music are also ways that they
express themselves as well.
The personality of a goth is pretty dark. They tend to read a lot of poetry
(including Byron, Poe, and Shelly)and gothic novels(such as anything by Poppy Z. Brite or Anne Rice).
Goths are not afraid of d`eath, unlike a "normal" person, who usually shuns even the thought of d`eath.
Goths are usually into anything that is dark and mysterious. I'm not saying things that are
EVIL here, just that we love the beauty of the night.
Goths tend to listen to music that is dark, such as the bands that I mentioned above.
Some also listen to techno/industrial, ambient, experimental and darkwave music. For a full list

One last thing...MARILYN MANSON IS NOT A GOTH!!!! He never claimed to be one and he has
never been one in the slightest. Most people believe if someone listens to Manson, they are
a goth. This is also not true. Mansonites (or Spooky Kids) are not goths and they are not
looked well upon by other goths(an understatement by far..)
