West Union Baptist Church 22365 NW West Union Road |
The West Union congregation initiated the Willamette Baptist Association in 1848, the oldest such group on the West Coast. The one story Classical Revival church which they erected is considered an important vestige of Baptist history and is maintained by the Oregon Baptist Convention. The church was built of hand-sawn lumber for a cost of just over fifteen hundred dollars and was dedicated on Christmas Day in 1853 by the Reverend Ezra Fisher. The land for the church and adjacent cemetery was donated by early pioneer school teacher and farmer, David Thomas Lenox. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
