GENDARMERIE NATIONALE - FRENCH NATIONAL POLICE
General Information
This plaque represents the Gendarmerie Nationale, the National para military police force of France.
This plaque was made by NAAFI HQ, Naval Basin, Singapore for presentations made by the Gendarmes stationed at the French Embassy in Canberra, ACT. The centre shield is a metal disc with the National emblem of the Gendarmerie Nationale. The disc is then fixed to a wooden disc and then fixed to the plaque.
The plaque measures:
Just under 15 cms at its widest point (just under 6 inches) and 17 1/2 cms long (7 inches).
This plaque is circa late 1980's. GN plaques are rarely seen on sale. The plaque is in very good condition with some very minor metal pitting on the plaque. It MAY need a clean but I have deliberately not done so.
The Gendarmerie Nationale is one of the oldest police forces in the world and operates under the French Department of Defence, it has a para military function as well as national policing responsibilities in metropolitan France as well as countries and protectorates that come under French Government control.
