Chapter 128

"Tay, I need to borrow your black sweatshirt." Carter kicked through a pile of junk in his bedroom and put her hands on her hips. "Didn't we just finish spring slash summer cleaning?" She looked around at the floor.

Taylor was sitting in the corner of his room with the attic door open, pulling things out of nowhere and throwing them around. "You can borrow it if you can find it."

Carter bent over and grabbed a handful of clothes. She began sifting through them. "Did your closet reject your newest pleather pants and puke all over your bedroom or something?"

Taylor muttered something incoherently.

"Ok then." Carter rolled her eyes and grabbed his black sweat shirt which was draped over the computer. "Nice place for it, really."

Taylor grabbed a stack of papers and began throwing them at her one by one. He laughed and watched as she grabbed the sides of her head, screamed bloody murder, and ducked down onto the floor. He covered his head as well and ducked. "WHAT?!" He yelled as she screamed again and wrapped the sweatshirt around her head.

"THERE IS A BAT IN YOUR ROOM!!!" She yelled and dropped onto her stomach on the floor.

"Huh? There is not."

"IT FLEW AT MY FACE!"

"Dude, chill. Papers flew at you face."

"No. Paper is not black with wings and it doesn't fly in your face and stare you in the eyes!"

"There is not a bat in my room!" Taylor stood up but then ducked quickly when the large flying object swooped a little too close to his head. "SON OF A BITCH!"

"You were saying?" Carter crawled on her stomach out into the hallway and waited impatiently for Taylor before slamming the door behind them. "It's been years since we've had a bat!"

Taylor let out a low whine before motioning for Carter to wake up Zac. Zac's favorite hobby was getting rid of bats. Ever since they were small children, bats would frequently escape fom an unknown source in the attic and make their way into the bedrooms and upstairs hallway. Zac enjoyed playing exterminator.

Taylor ran out of Zac's bedroom with a tennis racket in his hand. "Alright, let's not wake up mom and dad. And I guess Isaac will come down eventually to help once he hears the commotion."

Carter nodded and made a face at the tennis racket. "Do we have to kill it? I really don't want to promote death by sporting goods."

He rolled his eyes. "Carter, it's a bat."

"Yeah. And you're a boy. How bout I hit you repeatedly with a volleyball until you fall to your death off of a balcony. Sound good?"

Taylor nodded. "Ok, so we're going to try to catch it and free it. Good plan."

Carter and Taylor waited for a moment and listened as loud, shuffling noises came from Zac's bedroom. Then, he came running out. Taylor's jaw dropped and Carter laughed at his appearance. "What the hell are you wearing?" She asked, looking his wardrobe over. His head was covered in a white, mesh fabric, topped by a football helmet. He wore a heavy, black cape that covered most of his body. His hands were covered in oven mits and he held two tennis rackets in his hand.

"I am batman. Super Zac, the exterminator." He jumped and ran to the bathroom.

"You're kidding me." Carter followed him. "Wait, where are you going?"

"Out the bathroom window." He opened the window and climbed up onto the toilet. "I'm going to lure it out onto the balcony."

"So then what are the rackets for?"

Taylor sighed and sat down in the hallway. "Yeah. Carter won't let us kill it."

"These are just in case it gets out of hand. Plus they aid in my bat attraction dance."

Carter watched as he climbed out of the window and then followed him out onto the balcony. "Alright just as long as there's no bloodshed. And as long as I can just chill out at least ten feet away from the door." She flinched and covered her head when he ripped open the balcony door and jumped into a karate stance. "Zac! WAIT! I'M NOT READY!" She ducked down onto the ground.

Zac laughed and smiled at her. Then he peered into Taylor's bedroom. "Ok, so... where'd he go?"

"Probably plotting our demise."

Zac shook his head. "He's gotta be in there somewhere."

"So, go in and get him." Taylor said from the bathroom.

Carter and Zac laughed as Taylor attempted to climb out the window. His butt got caught on the window sill and he tumbled out onto the floor.

"Slick." Carter rolled her eyes and backed up against the balcony wall, as far away from the bat as possible.

"Ok, here's my plan." Zac ignored them and straightened his protective gear. "We make the bedroom the most horrible environment possible and try to make it want to come back outside."

"So how do we do that?" Taylor asked.

Carter grinned and pushed Taylor towards the room. "Quick, Tay, go in there and take off your shirt."

"Cute."

Zac laughed. "This is the hard part of my plan. I'm going to run inside and grab as much stuff as I can and then bring it back out here."

"You're going in there?" Carter looked terrified.

"How bad can it be."

Zac shrugged and straightened his helmet. He took a deep breath and ran into the room.

"I can't watch." Carter covered her eyes and waited five minutes until Zac came running out of the room with an armfull of books, baseballs, tennis balls, and other various tools.

"That is one frisky ass bat!" Zac yelled as he dropped all of the stuff on the ground and tried to catch his breath. He handed Carter a book and handed Taylor a tennis ball. "Ok guys, start chucking."

"Dude, why can't we throw all your stuff?"

Zac grabbed Taylor's dictionary and threw it at the bat which was flying around the room. He missed, but the bat frantically flapped it's wings and swooped down.

Carter screeched and ducked even though the bat never came near her. Then, she threw the book she was holding. It landed two feet inside of Taylor's bedroom.

Taylor laughed and threw the tennis ball. He missed the bat by inches. "Carter, you throw like a girl."

"I could kick your ass though." She glared.

"Very true."

For fifteen minutes they threw every random object they had, missing the bat, over and over again. Finally, Carter grabbed the metal baseball bat and grinned. "Ok, this is it." She threw the bat as hard as she could and stopped dead in her tracks when it went straight threw the wall at the far end of the room. "Oops."

"Oops?" Taylor grumbled. "How many holes have you put in our house in the past year?"

"Like, seven. But that one wasn't my fault."

Zac laughed and rolled his eyes. "Ok, I have an idea." He straightened his bat catching gear and ducked back into Taylor's bedroom again.

"What are you doing?!" Carter yelled as she watched Zac grab Taylor's clothes hamper.

"I'm catching me a flying rodent." Zac ducked severeal times before lifting the hamper in the air and catching the bat inside. He slammed the hamper onto the floor and sat on it. "There. Problem solved."

Taylor stepped into his bedroom and shook his head. "Uhm, not exactly, Zac. What are you going to do with it now?"

Zac thought for a while, twitching every so often when the bat flapped against the inside of the hamper. "Ok, come help me." He motioned for Taylor and carter to come inside but Carter shook her head.

"Nah uh."

"Car, it's fine, he's underneathe this and he can't get out."

Carter shivered and stepped into the room. Then, they all grabbed the hamper and pushed it as fast as they could out of the room and onto the balcony. When it flipped over, the bat flew out and disappeared into the darkness. "Whoa, we did it."

Zac nodded and took off his helmet and net. He dropped them onto Taylor's bedroom floor. "I am very tired now, I'm going to take a nap."

"Me too." Carter nodded and followed Zac into his bedroom, leaving Taylor to clean up the bombsite that had taken over his bedroom.

Zac waited until Carter plopped down on his bed before closing his door. Then, he walked over to her and grabbed her hands, pulling her up to him. "What? Huh? What?" She asked as he rested his arms on her shoulders.

"You're pretty."

Carter laughed. "Thanks. You too."

"Uhm, yeah." Zac smiled and pushed a stray piece of hair out of Carter's face. Then, he leaned forward and kissed her lightly on the lips. His arms slid around her back and he kissed her again, more deeply and passionately.

When they parted, Carter closed her eyes and rested her head on his shoulder. "What was that for?"

"Nothing. I just love you a whole lot."

Carter smiled and hugged Zac. "I love you, too."
