Chapter 19

Carter laid out the last sleeping bag and threw herself on top of it. "This one's mine."

Zac rolled his eyes and turned to Dominique. "Carter always has to have the black one. Which one do you want?"

"Doesn't matter." She shrugged.

"Well, you can have the maroon one. It's better. And I like the blue one better anyway."

"Ok." Dominique sat down indian-style on the sleeping bag and put her hands in her lap.

"You know what we haven't done in a while?" Carter asked, sounding excited. "We should play Truth."

"What's that?"

Zac laughed. "Well. It's a game we used to play when we were younger. To force secrets out of eachother. Basically you just ask a question and the person has to answer it."

"Ok. I'll play." Dominique smiled.

"Alright." Carter gave Zac her mischeivious smile and laid down on her stomach. "Zac. Do you think Melissa is hot?"

"Uhm. Yeah. But she's not my type."

"Why not?"

"Cause she's a ho."

Carter laughed. "Ok now you ask."

"Ok." Zac smiled at Dominique. "Nique. Why did you move here?"

Dominique looked at the ground and sighed. "Well, after my mom's funeral, we wanted to move away. Somewhere nicer. I guess." She shrugged and moved on. "Carter, why do you like Taylor?"

"Actually, I used to hate him. But then all of a sudden he went sappy and cute on me. So..." She laughed. "Nique...." Carter wanted to push the question, hoping that Dominique wouldn't mind. "How did you mother die."

"Cancer. She was sick for a while. And then... she just... got worse. She just died a couple months ago."

Carter sighed. "My mom died a couple years ago. She was hit by a car."

"That really sucks."

Carter nodded. "Yeah. It does. I don't feel like playing this anymore."

"Me neither."

Zac yawned. "I'm hungry."

"What else is new."

"You guys want anything?" He asked, standing up and stretching out.

"I'll eat whatever you don't eat from the kitchen to here." Carter grinned.

When Zac came back, he was empty handed.

"Surprise surprise." Carter laughed and rolled her eyes.

"There's nothing good to eat anyway." Zac yawned and put his head down on his pillow.

"You ok Zac?"

"I'm just tired." He yawned again, and within minutes, he was asleep.

"So what do you think of Zac?" Carter asked, rolling over on her back.

"I dunno." Dominique shrugged. "He's really nice. But I don't think he likes me. He acts weird."

Carter laughed. "That would be Zac. Trust me. He likes you."

"How do you know?"

"Cause I know him better than I know anybody. The way he clenches his teeth whenever you look directly at him. That's a sign that he wants you bad."

Dominique laughed. "Anything else?"

"Well, he can't sit still whenever you're really close. I mean, it's Zac. He usually can't sit still. But I've never seen him squirm so much. You know?"

"So why aren't you too together?"

Carter shrugged. "I dunno. I love Zac more than anything or anybody in the world. But.... I dunno, it would be like going out with a brother."

"Yeah. Well, I'd like to go out with somebody like Zac. But... I've never really had a boyfriend."

"Me neither. Besides Tay. Zac was my first kiss."

"Wow. Really? Were you his?"

"Uh huh. But... it was more like an experimental thing. And I think I really like Tay."

"I haven't seen him yet. Is he cute?"

Carter grinned and stood up. She walked over to the door and opened it a little, making sure that Taylor wasn't sleeping naked again. "Come here."

"Why?"

"Just come here."

Dominique shrugged and stood up. She peeked in the door and grinned. "That's Tay?"

"Yeah. Isn't he hot?"

"Yeah. But I think Zac is better. He has really nice hair."

"So does Tay. But Zac's is like... softer."

"Yeah."

"You know, Zac was telling me something. He thinks you're really pretty."

"Really?"

"Yep." Carter sat back down on her sleeping bag and waited for Dominique to sit down on hers.

"So.... think I...."

"I think you two would make a great couple. But..."

"What?"

"I dunno. Zac's not the kind of person to make the first move. I mean, he's hyper and whacky. But when it comes to new girls, he's kind of... weird."

"I noticed."

Zac rolled over and moaned. "Come on you guys, stop it already."

Carter made a funny face and looked at Dominique.

"Was he listening?"

"No. He talks in his sleep. But... this sounds scary." She laughed and leaned closer to Zac. "Watch this." She whispered and ran her finger across his ear.

"Come on, knock it off." He moaned again. "You know I don't like it there."

Carter slapped her hand over her mouth and laughed. "Oh my god."

Dominique giggled from her sleeping bag and watched intently.

Carter ran her finger across his chest and tried to keep from giggling.

"Why don't you just take it off Tay?"

Carter cracked up and fell over onto Zac.

"DUDE WHY ARE YOU ON ME?!?!" Zac shrieked when he looked up at Carter.

"I dunno, why don't you just take it off Tay?"

Zac looked at her, confused. Then he looked over at Dominique. "Nique, why is she on me?"

Dominique laughed. "You talk in your sleep."

"I know." Zac shrugged. "Uh oh. Was it the dream where I was sleeping with a monkey?"

"No. I think it was the 'Tay the Stripper' dream. Mixed with the monkeys. But I can't be sure."

"Damn." Zac whined. "Are you gonna get off of me?"

"I dunno." Carter shrugged, making a pillow out of his chest. "This is kind of comfy."

"Fine then. Sleep on me. Just stay still and stop talking about me."

Carter looked up at Dominique and blinked hard.

"Yeah that's right. I heard you guys talking about me. And yeah Nique, I think you're hot too." He smiled before falling asleep again.

Carter laughed as she watched Dominique turn bright red. Then she laughed and touched Zac's ear again.

"Stop it. Damn you."

Dominique laughed. "Is he asleep?"

"I dunno." Carter shrugged and sat up. She leaned down and licked his cheek.

"I said knock it off Mr. Ape! Not tonight!"

"Yep. He's sleeping." Carter laughed and went back to her own sleeping bag.
