Chapter 29

"Good lord I'm bored." Carter grinned. "Hey that rhymed."

"Genius." Taylor sat on the floor in front of her in their living room. Isaac was on a chair, sprawled acrossed it with his head hanging back. Zac was lying with his head on Carter's lap.

"Shut up Tay." Carter hadn't been feeling too well emotionally. She lost the picture of her mother that had stayed in her pocket since her death. Now she had nothing left of her. Her father had burned all of her pictures right after she died in a fit of rage. The whole family took her death in a different way. Melissa ignored it, Carter stayed quiet, and their father yelled at everybody and blamed everything, including God.

"Grouchy Grouchy." Taylor snickered and dodged from being hit by Carter again.

"I said shut up." Carter crossed her arms over her shoulders and sighed quietly.

Zac had been ignoring the movie all night. He couldn't help stare at her. "What's wrong?" He whispered, trying not to let Taylor hear."

Carter shrugged.

"Kitchen?"

She nodded.

Zac sat up and announced to his brothers. "We're gonna get a drink."

"Yeah right." Isaac snickered, staring at the tv.

Zac grabbed Carter's hand and pulled her across the living room and into the kitchen. When he got there, she burried her face in his shoulder and hugged him.

"Hey, yer not crying are you?"

"No. Not crying."

"Then what's wrong?"

"Nothing, I just wanted to hug you."

"But that's not what's wrong." Zac looked into Carter's eyes and brushed his hand against her cheek.

"I lost the picture of my mom. I can't find it anywhere. And I don't think it went through the wash. It's all I had left."

"You have memories."

"But what if I forget, Zac? Everybody that loses their mom loses memories more and more until its just a vague blur. I don't want that to happen."

"It won't. Because you're mom is different. And I have so many memories of her, so I'll be able to help you remember. Ok?"

"Why'd she die?" Carter looked up and Zac and blinked hard, wrapped her arms around her own stomach, like she often did when she was feeling bad.

"Cause God has some really fucked up plans that we don't know about yet. But I'm sure things will turn out fine eventually. Just gotta let life take it's coarse."

"You know what I think sometimes that makes me really mad at myself?"

"What?"

Carter shrugged and looked down at the floor. "I get scared that my family is cursed and that I'm going to die young. My mom's mom died when she was 37. My mom was as young as me. And my mom died when she was 37. It scares me and then I feel all selfish for only thinking about myself."

"You are NOT going to die. And you aren't cursed. Besides, your grandmother's death had no similarity to your mom's. She died... in a tornado..." Zac paused. "Ok so maybe you are cursed."

"ZAC!" Carter smacked Zac's arm and laughed. "You are NOT funny. You're supposed to be making me feel better and you go and tell me I'm cursed."

"I was just agreeing with you."

"Well stop doing that. Come on. Let's go watch the movie."

"K." Zac followed Carter back into the living room. "Hey guys." He grabbed a pillow from the couch and swung as hard as he could, hitting taylor right on the shoulder. "We're back!"

Taylor shrieked and shoved Zac into the couch. "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!"

"I dunno. You looked so retarded and tempting. I had to thwack you."

"YEAH?! WELL THWACK THIS!" Taylor jumped back from Zac, getting ready to grab the pillow and hit him with it. But he stepped on Carter's foot and fell backwards on top of her.

"OWwwww!" Carter laughed, rubbing her forehead where Taylor's shoulder hit.

"Sorry." Taylor blushed and stood up. Carter stood up behind him and put her arms around her stomach again, while staring at the tv. Zac and Taylor went at it with the pillows for a while longer, hitting eachother back and forth, each time getting more forceful. Taylor finally got frustrated and swung his entire body around, letting go with all his force, the pillow hit Carter square in the face, causing her to fall back, slamming her head into the wall.

"Woops." Taylor dropped the pillow and looked down at her.

"Shit! Tay! Look what you did!" Zac bent down next to Carter and tapped her shoulder. "Hey. Wake up."

Carter laid still, her head propped against the wall, her body twisted into a strange position.

"Dammit. Ike get over here."

"Dude what'd you do?"

"Is she dead?" Taylor poked Carter's arm.

"No she's not dead, you knocked her out, blowhole!" Zac shoved Taylor away.

Taylor grinned. "So if she's unconscious, she wouldn't know if I touched her..." Tay leaned forward to grab Carter's chest.

"DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!" Zac shoved Taylor again. "What do we do."

Carter raised her hand to her head and moaned. "Fuck me, Taylor. What the hell did you do that for?"

"Sorry." Taylor blushed again."

"No prob bob." Carter laughed. "Don't ever try to touch my boob again or I'll kill you." She grinned, sitting up, rubbing her head. She tipped over to the side and fell into Zac's arm.

"Whoa. Little dizzy there?" Zac asked, putting his arm around her.

"Just a lil." Carter smiled. "What were we doing before this?"

"Watching a movie."

"Oh. What movie?"

Zac laughed. "I don't think anybody was watching it. You ok?"

"Oh yeah fine. Except for the splitting headache..." She glared at Taylor.

"Sorry."

"Yeah yeah. I'm sure." She laughed and sat back up on the couch.
