Chapter 75

"Now I lay me down to sleep, you're not by my side, my pillow's soaking wet from all the tears that I've cried. When I look in your eyes, I don't see me anymore, so can we try one more time, before you walk out that door."***

Beth took a sip of her Coke, which she ordered by demand of Carter, and watched Taylor as he rocked back and forth with Carter in his arms. They had gone to Dillie's for dinner, and now Taylor and Carter, and Justine and Zac were dancing slowly in the middle of the club.

Isaac had joined them, hoping he might run into somebody hot. But now he found himself sitting next to Beth at a booth, watching his brothers and their girlfriends, one relationship as sweet as could be, one as new and promising as could be. Melissa had made her way over to the stage to talk to Todd. Just watching everybody made him more depressed then ever. He sighed and turned to Beth. "So uhm, since we're the only lonely schmucks in this place that aren't..."

Beth smiled and took his hand as he led her to the middle of the floor. He put his hands on her hips and she had hers on his shoulders, dancing as friends do, even though they hardly knew eachother.

After the song ended, another slow song began, by a band that Isaac didn't know, and since Justine, Zac, Carter, and Taylor continued to dance, Isaac held onto Beth. He couldn't help but notice her looking over his shoulder, and he knew exactly what she was looking at. "You really like him don't you."

Beth didn't answer, she just swallowed hard.

"Hey you can tell me, it's not like chicks haven't fallen for him before. I guess he's lucky like that."

"You don't have a girlfriend?"

Isaac shook his head.

"Why not?"

"I guess there's just nobody around."

"But you've had a lot of girlfriends in the past, right?"

"One or two. There was a girl when I was 16, and then there was Melissa. But I'm not sure if she really counted." Beth finally stopped staring at Taylor and brought her eyes to Isaac. Isaac almost gasped when he realized how beautiful she was. "What about you? I'm sure you have a new boyfriend already."

"If I had one, do you think I'd really be almost crying over Taylor?" She smiled. "There's somebody back at home. I think he's interested. But I don't trust him. I don't even know him."

"But you don't even know me, and you're dancing with me."

Beth smiled. "I don't know. I think I can trust you. There's something about you. I think it's in your eyes. Who knows."

"I'm glad." Isaac smiled. Beth hardly even noticed when the next song came on, another song by All-4-One that seemed to fit what he was feeling perfectly. They just kept dancing, even after Taylor and Carter sat back down to finish their dinner.

Beth moved a little closer and put her head against Isaac's chest. "I wish I never had to move. I liked Tulsa a lot. I just wish I would have met people like you guys a lot sooner."

Isaac smiled and breathed in her scent as he listened to the music.

"So you say he let you on, you'll never give again your heart is feeling hurt and confused. You say you did the givin' more than gettin' all he did was take and left you feelin' so used. I won't love and leave your heart filled with doubt. I'm for real, that's not what i'm all about... What kind of fool would steal your love like that he wasn't what he seemed, he schemed and lied from the start. But baby don't you chalk it up, you've gotta give it one more chance. These words come straight from my heart I'll erase the hurt deep inside you'll forget the tears you've cried."**
