The 1997-98 Blackhawk High School
Marching Band is under the direction of Robert Barthen. The assistant
is Russ Couch, the auxiliary sponsor is Linda Barthen, the marching
consultant/ technican is Bob Beatty, student teacher Scott Albert, and the
drum instructor is Mark Riel.
The theme for this year's show is "Music
of John Williams," featuring music from "Hook," and "Star Wars" including
"Cantina Band" and the "Main Theme." The music is arranged by John
Taylor, the percussion book arranged by Mark Riel, and the drill
design is written by Brian Bambauer. This marks the third year John
and Brian have collaberated on the show. Color guard equipment work
was written by Rick McDaniel.
The band is under the field direction
of Drum Majors Rachelle Short and Michael Spoon.

The Blackhawk HS Band competes in
the Tournament of Bands, Group IV, and is a member of Chapter 8.
The Blackhawk HS Band competes annually
in the Bands of America Eastern Regional Competition, held at West Virginia
University in Morgantown, West Virginia.
