The clutch and flywheel, um, well used.
The engine bay, as it is now. There will be much grinding and sanding to come.
This car is a'65 Comet Caliente convertible 289, 4 speed car and is aqua green, even though it looks blue...
Uncle Jim Deal bought the car in Oct of 67, when he worked at Sampson Buick. It was traded in on a '67 Buick Gran Sport, and the Comet only had 6000 miles on it. He raced it from '68 to '71 at Keystone, back when it was class racing instead of ET bracket racing. He surprised a lot of people with it. JD paid more attention to beating whoever was paired up with him, instead of the time of his card, which was low 15s. At the time, Hooker didn't make headers for it, claiming there wasn't enough room. So Uncle Jim used a Holley and a Carter AFB, drilling the jets on both, using a modified distributor with a recurve kit, and aluminum Laker pipes to get more performance out of it. It isn't a posi car, so traction and wheel hop were a problem, especially when polyglas and nylon tires were the standard then. Today's radials may have helped clean up that problem. Doug's parents found themselves in need of a daily driver, and bought the Comet from Uncle Jim. They ran it as such for a number of years. Doug's older brother Dale used it when he was in high school, and shortly after that it went into the garage to hibernate. It didn't move from there for almost 15 years. What's next is uncertain at this point. It is now in Doug's garage, moved there to help facilitate his parents move, so life may slowly be returning to it.
