• I want to be a leader by the way I play the game, but if something needs to be said, I'll say it. I'm being me. Maybe I should keep my mouth shut sometimes, maybe I shouldn't.

• If the Pirates want to move me [to another position], what can I do? I work for them. But do I want to move? No, I don't. I want to catch. I like being in the game every pitch, every play.

Kendall, who broke into the big leagues in 1996, has been improving since day one. He is the Pirates team leader and has accepted the role with open arms. Kendall is the future of the Pirates and a franchise player. Even though he plays for a low budget team, that is low profile, Kendall has been getting some attention. He has been appearing on highlight films more and more, Sportscenter has done pieces on him, and he even appeared in Sports Illustrated.
