Eckley Recruiting Station

In 2004 and 2005 we were given permission to move a display into one of the houses in Eckley. The front of the house is set up as a Civil War period recruiting station and the rear of the house is a fantastic civilian display. Eckley was the base of recruiting for our company, Co K of the 81st PA Volunteer Infantry Regiment in 1861. Eckley was the hometown of 36 men of the company. The majority of the items in the recruiting station are reproduction while the majority of the civilian items are authentic. It is a nice display and we received many positve comments on it. The house will be manned by members of our company on June 25 & 26, July 17, and August 27 & 28, 2005.

The company is waiting here for the dedication of the house at last year's Civil War Days.

The front room of the house is the recruiting station.

The middle room is a museum of sorts for 81st and Civil War items.

These are photos of some of the 81st men we procured from the archives, ancestors, or the Carlisle Barracks. From left to right: Colonel James Miller; Major Eli Conner; Captain John McLaughlin, Sergeant John Williamson. Close-ups of these photos and photos of others, along with information about them can be found on our Original 81st pages.
