Gettysburg Remembrance Day

In November of 1863, President Lincoln gave the famous Gettysburg address as part of the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg. Each year near the anniversary of this event, hundreds, if not thousands, of reenactors march in a huge parade at Gettysburg, PA. The parade is followed by a ceremony near the Cyclorama at Gettysburg National Military Park. At the conclusion of the ceremony blue and gray meet at the wall on Cemetery Ridge where the armies clashed during Pickett's Charge on the third day of the battle. Here a ceremonial hand shake between Union and Confederate reenactors reminds us all that we are now a country united. After this the different units break off and lay wreaths, flowers, and flags at the monuments of the men they represent.
