Gettysburg Remembrance Day 2006

In November of 1863, President Lincoln gave the famous Gettysburg address as part of the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg. Each year near the anniversary of this event, hundreds, if not thousands, of reenactors march in a parade at Gettysburg, PA. The parade is followed by a ceremony held by our battalion, The Mifflin Guard, at the Meade Monument on Gettysburg National Military Park where we honor our own reenactors who are no longer with us. After this the different units break off and lay wreaths, flowers, and flags at the monuments of the regiments they represent.

Members of Co. K, 81st PA met and presented a wreath at the 81st PA Monument in the Wheatfield where 175 men of the regiment fought with the 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 2nd Army Corp. Of the 175 men who charged onto the wheat on July 2, 1863, 9 were killed, 45 were wounded, and 8 were missing or captured for a total of 62 casualties.

On Sunday we march to the monuments of the 26th PA, 61st NY, 81st PA and 1st PA Reserves to honor the men with our comrades. Here, we gather at the 26th PA monument below the Codori Farm on the Emmitsburg Pike.
