Box Stitch Baby Bonnet

Materials:
G Hook
1 skein Lion Brand Baby Soft yarn
Color No. 200 Baby White
Yarn Needle

Ch 73
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from the hook. (ch2, sk 2 chains, sc in the next 2 ch) across to the last 3 ch. Ch2, sc in the last chain. (18 ch 2 loops)

Row 2: Ch 3, turn. (4 dc in ea ch 2 loop) across. dc in the last sc.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in the same st. (ch 3 sc in between next group of 4 dc) across to the last group. Sc in the last dc.

Rows 4-12: Repeat rows 2 and 3 ending with row 3. Fasten off.

Back of Bonnet

Ch 25
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from the hook. (ch2, sk 2 chains, sc in the next 2 ch) across to the last 3 ch. Ch2, sc in the last chain. (6 ch 2 loops)

Row 2: Ch 3, turn. (4 dc in ea ch 2 loop) across. dc in the last sc.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in the same st. (ch 3 sc in between next group of 4 dc) across to the last group. Sc in the last dc.

Rows 4-12: Repeat rows 2 and 3 ending with row 3. Fasten off.

Holding right sides facing each other, line up the back piece in the center of the large piece. Sew across the top and down the side. Fasten off. Sew down the other side.

Front Ruffle

Join with a sl st in either bottom corner of the front of the bonnet. 8 dc in each sp across. Fasten off.

For the straps attach yarn to bottom corner with a sc and chain 50(or more for desired length) Repeat on the other side.

Finishing touches: In order to get rid of the boxy shape, weave a long strand of yarn starting in the bottom center through the stitching in the back and across the bottom with the two ends meeting in the middle. Shape bonnet as you want it by tightening or loosening the string. Tie in a small bow.
