ability

  • People are always ready to admit a man’s ability after he gets there.
    --- Bob Edwards

  • Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.
    --- Theodore Roosevelt

  • Natural ability without education has more often raised a man to glory and virtue than education without natural ability
    --- Cicero

  • Native ability without education is like a tree without fruit.
    --- Aristippus

  • You can’t control the length of your life - but you can control its width and depth. You can’t control the contour of your face - but you can control its expression. You can’t control the weather - but you can control the atmosphere of your mind. Why worry about things you can’t control when you can keep yourself busy controlling the things that depend on you.

  • I am only one, but I am one. Icannot do everything, but Ican do something; and what I should do and can do, by the Grace of God I will do.

  • We cannot do everything at once;
but we can do something at once.

  • We cannot do everything at once; but we can do something at once.

getting started

  • Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

  • You will never leave where you are until you decide where you would rather be.

  • Accept the fact that only you can determine where you want to go and how you are going to get there.
    - Terry Bowden

  • When you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.

  • Do it trembling if you must, but do it!
    - Emmit Fox

  • Do all the good you can
By all the means you can
In all the ways you can
In all the places you can
At all the times you can
To all the people you can
As long as ever you can.

  • My part is to improve the present moment.

  • Life is too short to be little.

  • Because life is short, it is wise to make it broad.

  • The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything.
    - Theodore Roosevelt

  • People who say “I can’t do it,” are defeated before they begin.

  • Trying times are for trying.

  • The impossible is often untried

stick to it

  • Resiliency is an important factor in living. The winds of life may bend us, but if we have resilience of spirit, they cannot break us. To courageously straighten again after our heads have been bowed by defeat, disappointment and suffering is the supreme test of character.

  • When you get to he end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on.

  • The only time you mustn’t fail is the last time you try.

  • A diamond is a piece of coal that stuck to the job.

  • There is no failure save in giving up.

  • We can do anything we want if we stick to it long enough.

  • All problems become smaller if you don’t dodge them but confront them. Touch a thistle timidly and it will prick you; grasp it boldly and its spines crumble.

    rewards

    • The highest reward for a man’s tail is not what he gets for it, but what he becomes by it.

    • One of the biggest thrills in life comes from doing a job well.

    • Success is a bright sun that obscures and makes ridiculously unimportant all the little shadowy flecks of failure.

    • The great successful people of the world ... think ahead and create their mental picture, and then go to work materializing that picture in all its details, filling in here, adding a little there, altering this a bit and that a bit, but steadily building - steadily building.
      --- Robert Collier
